I know map MFD is not working right, the orbit lines do not display correctly and if you follow the HUD onscreen marker, you'll never get there.

In D3D7 external client I cant transition through 2d, 3d, and 3d external views it just CTD as soon as I press F8

D3D9Client for Beta Rev 9

Here's a new build for the latest beta.

- Splash screen fixed
- DG HUD issue fixed
- 2D panel is now working
- Tile Debugger implemented (activated from D3D9Client.cfg)

I have noticed some random anomalies with a surface tiles when testing with my regular scenarios near Himalayas. From time to time some tiles are miss-placed, appearing in weird angles or appearing enlarged. The inline engine seems to be working fine and I haven't got the pre-build D3D7Client to work. It would be important to get a fresh build of the D3D7Client for reference to narrow down the possible source of the problem.

Getting error: "413 Request Entity Too Large" when trying to attach 1.1MB zip
Will upload to CodePlex... Download

You mean it doesn't compile from the sources? I can upload a new compiled zip package to Sourceforge if it helps, but the only difference will be the fix of the F8 switching crash.

Edit: I've uploaded D3D7client141222.zip to sourceforge now.
I have Cloud shadows flickers when orbiting: http://gyazo.com/740d14bcd2c2095eba7f6e656e27b1cd
Note that the implementation of cloud shadows isn't complete in the D3D7 client, so if the D3D9 implementation is derived from it, that could be the problem you see. What is missing is the implementation of partial texture overlaps between cloud textures and surface meshes. This isn't going to be trivial, so it might take me a while. If you do find a working solution, I'd be very interested. Apart from that, a temporary fix would be to disable the rotation of the cloud layer, so that partial overlaps don't occur.

jarmonik, I just tried it out, the surface tiles for Moon and Mars are not loading unless you zoom out a lot from the surface. Earth worked fine thou.

Nevermind me however, I seem to be having a lot of issues running this beta.

First and foremost, thank you Martin!!

...To get the most of it (and to be able to recreate the screenshots on the Orbiter website), you'll also need to download an updated Earth texture tile...
Do these new textures replace some of the "Optional hires texture packs"?
Must they be installed last?

Yes. You should install the new EarthHi_10_08.zip file on top of the existing Earth highres textures and overwrite when asked. But be aware of the "obsolete residual tiles" issue further back in this thread.

I'll try to update all Earth texture packs later today on the alteaaerospace server, and soon after that, the orbiter-radio.co.uk server should also be synced. So for anybody who downloads a fresh set of Earth textures into a clean directory (not an existing one!), everything should be consistent, and there won't be a need to separately download the EarthHi_10_08.zip linked to in this thread.

It appears to crash right when I activate the D3D7Client from the launchpad. Looks like I have to start installing DX7 SDK.
There are no errors reported.

Was this solved?

Did you solve your ctd gattispilot?

Downloaded and ran in regular graphics. I opened a delta glider scenario it opened and then ctd. Running Windows 8.1

Getting this too - I'm on Windows 8.1 (poor us!)

Similar issue on my end, opens up then CTDs about 1.5 seconds into the scenario. This is a fresh install. Using Windows 7.

Ok, sounds like there may be a problem. Are there any scenarios you can run without having to disable elevation support?

Can you try the following: edit the "DG Mk4 in orbit" scenarios by removing all vessels except GL-01. Check if that runs without crashing with elevation enabled. If it does, use the scenario editor to place the vessel on the ground (or try to land it yourself) and see if that works.

Then, edit the "DG-S ready for takeoff", again only leaving GL-01S in the scenario, and try that.

Hopefully, some of these will work and may allow to establish a pattern.

Also, another question: How can one determine what tile go where on the planet?

I'm secretly continuing my project TileMaker for a compatibility towards Orbiter 2015, but I'm stuck on the logic I should apply there. The first 2 levels contains only one texture of the whole planet, and then it's 2, then 4 textures, and so on.
Trying to, from that, make a suitable algorithm fails miserably.
So, what is the logic behind the implementation of the surface tiles?

Haven't found a scenario that runs with it checked - been through most - including Views and The Solar System.
Earth textures don't seem to be loading in those first two seconds - atmospheric haze is there though.

Editing out everything except GL-01 in "DG Mk4 in orbit" has no effect - still ctd

Ok, that probably means that it is not the vessel-surface interaction which causes the problem, but the tile generator. I'll see if I can put a few more assertion checks in the code to get this narrowed down.

From level 4, it is a quadtree, which at the root has two textures (eastern and western hemisphere, consisting of a 512x512 texture each. Each subsequent level divides the parent tile into 4 subtiles.

Have a look at Utils/tileedit.exe. (you'll have to download the Matlab-2012a 64-bit runtimes as explained earlier in this thread). This will allow you to traverse the quadtree, and shows the longitude and latitude index of each tile.
