Saving hasn't been implemented yet. I'll work on the speedometer and steering gauges once I get this done.
Thanks. How about moving over to the new mesh as it is more accurate and true to size?

The current one is now considered obsolete and the new one is the baseline vehicle.
 
Checked in the code for saving steering mode. I'm in the process of updating my SSU dev install to Orbiter 2010; once that's done I'll work on the VC gauges.

Can you create a file like digits.bmp for the Crawler displays? The Crawler seems to have green displays, so I can't use the digits.bmp file.

Done and checked in. It's the same one but with green digits instead of red.
 
The current set of texture for the gauges won't work; I need two separate images of the 'Steering Angle Actual' gauge. Otherwise, both the gauges will display the same value.

Checked in a new 2004 C/T main body mesh based on the new 1980's main body. So I guess the animation code needs to be updated to take in account the new correct offsets.
 
Checked in code for the remaining steering gauges. I'll work on updating the animations for the new meshes.

Do you know how high the new mesh needs to be offset off the ground? If I set it up so the crawler rods are attached to the drive trucks, the staircases are partially underground.

Well, I haven't managed find out the total length of the JEL cylinders, but the height of the trucks from the bottom of the shoes to the socket for the guide tube is 3 m.

After doing some careful analysis of the R&R work of two of the Corner C JEL cylinders back in 2002, I have estimated the total length of the JEL cylinders to be about 4.1 m. This is includes some length of the cylinders that are not visible when the cylinders are attached to the truck.
 
Setting the mesh offset for the new meshes to 3m, it looks like the screenshot below. The problem is that the staircases seem to be digging into the ground, and I have to raise the crawler body up quite a bit to fix this.

Yes, I have seen this in GMAX and can't quite figure why this is. The length of the staircases are true and correct.

Maybe the angle is wrong... or the reference positions are.

It looks to me as if the main body of the crawler is about one meter too low, there is as much room below the crawler as you have in photographs.

Well, according to my information the distance between the ground and the very bottom of the C/T with the JEL cylinders retracted is 7 ft and 3 inches, which works out to be 2.175 m.

I think I have fixed the staircase problem. Turns out it was a bit long but that has been corrected. I'll fix a few other problems I have noticed and check in the fixed meshes.
One thing I'll that I had forgotten is that the stairs can be raised/lowered by the use of an electrical winch. So they are not hard-mounted but rather attached to a pivot which allow the stairs to be moved and personnel to get on/off the transporter when it is jacked up.

Checked some modified code that now has the correct positions for the VC panels and cameras.

Here's a priority list of what I would see implemented before we call the C/T done:


  • Speedometer gauge working
  • Service brakes working
  • The various indicator lights working

If you want to animate the steering arms in terms of actually steering the C/T, here's the dimensions of those:

14' - 10" full retracted
5' - 5" stroke +_ 1/4"
 
Does anyone else experience a freeze of Orbiter when trying to pick up the MLP from the VAB stands?

Also, is there anything I need to do for the C/T VC to be finished?
 
I can attach the MLP to the crawler without any problems.
Weired. For me Orbiter freezes the moment I press J to attach the MLP to the C/T.

I can't even start the scenario you posted. It seems to crash just after the clbkPostCreation call for the SRBs (clbkPostCreation runs successfully).

Loads fine for me. Try it with the updated VAB.ini file I have checked in. It has the H/B3 door animations added as H/B3 was the bay used to stack the STS-1 elements. Also checked in an updated VAB_MLP_stands.cfg file which has the attachment point for the H/B3 stands added and is the most likely culprit for your CTD.

CTD on loading is fixed now, and Orbiter freezes when J is pressed.
