I followed the old tutorial-checklist.on how to get the G4-200 into LEO,but when I finally get the ship past mach 1.5,and engage the wing mode to HPC mode, I lose speed, and altitude, but this didn't happen before with the earlier models.Has anybody got up to to LEO with the 303 model yet?,and if so can somebody give a rough tutorial on this, please until Moach releases an instruction doc? Thanks:cheers:

10 -

* bay doors - open (press 'B', switch not installed yet)
* awesome - you are now!
* drinks - on the house! (depending on program budget)

feel free to copy that into a txt file or something.... i reckon that's about as much documentation as we have on this thing at the moment :hmm:

hope it helps (and that i haven't forgotten anything)

Fuel her up all the way first! Main fuel is at about 80% at the start...
Use your trim (insert and delete), run the ramcasters in Hi, and don't switch to HPC wings until about M2.0. Worked for me,

This is quite nice, good work. Though I can't help but feel a bit sad that your DG style spaceplane wasn't finished, I find those to be very pleasing aesthetically though admittedly a tad bit overdone.

My main concern with this is the lackluster documentation. Sitting in the cockpit randomly flipping switches in the hopes the engines will turn on seems like something that would get a pilot fired

mmmhhh...this text could fit with Checklist MFD...

very well - it really could....

perhaps that could be an alternative to solve the whole documentation problem... quick, easy, and awesome to boot

edit:

checked the SDK for that thing - it's definitely simple enough, ok i'll go for it!

next verions shall include checklists for use with this MFD (and in the future, i might rig up the EFB panels to do this too :hmm:)

Here for anybody that's interested,it's a txt file for the checklistMFD,I made by following Moach's list just download the MFD on OH,and drop in this in the checklist folder, sorry I had to cut some of the lines short because your only allowed 35 characters for each line.Enjoy

yes, i've been eye'ing that one as well, specially since it has included sources so it's that much easier to incorporate to the EFB panels....

in the end, i'd say we go for a combination of both... the EFB screens would work for displaying notes and flight procedures as text, while the checklists on the MFD have all the "check" functionality which makes it fun to play with :hmm:

btw - i finally got around texturing the window frames and columns on the VC - gotta say, i didn't think it'd make such a huge deal for immersion - but it really did...

i'll post a picture shortly...

About damn time. The lack of official documentation for this addon is a real pain in the... neck.

Indeed, though one can hardly expect a rapidly changing work-in-progress to provide accurate documentation all the time (if so, no real work would get done!). :)

yep - that about sums it up alright

that's the thing about WIP... i wouldn't call it that if it weren't for a reason...

documentation at this point would only slow things down and prevent sometimes needed changes from being done comfortably

i believe you may have noticed how some of the switches in the VC keep changing over each release... - that's what happens when you're making things up as you go along, then eventually you find "hey, that doesn't work with that other thing" or "hmm, this wold be better if it were otherwise"

and that kinda stuff happens all the time...

yet - i'm gonna makke sure WIP-4 comes in with at least a quickstart manual of sorts... to get ppl acquainted with the controls and what the ship can do

that should be fairly simple to do...

and checklistMFD will help a great deal then

well - tomorrow is a national holiday, so i hope i might get something useful done

The reason there is no official documentation is because the project is not official. Have you noticed the WIP? That means it's a work in progress. Give Moach a break. IMO He's doing an awesome job.

Personally, I don't know why people are having issues with the documentation.

1) This addon is by definition a WIP (work in progress). That means that any aspect of the project can change. For Moach to give full documentation at every point would double or triple the workload and time consumption of the project. Thus, the G42 design and development itself would suffer.

2) The existing documentation is not that complicated.

I have one quick question. I just downloaded the latest WIP, and it has been a while since I last tried to fly this thing, so I need to dig into this thread to learn again how to use all the fancy system.

First a comment, the VC is just flat awesome. This is such an impressive ship, even if the final version has half of the switches do something is going to be quite a feat, very very very impressive, and it is just such a great concept with the different engines for different phases of flight.

My question, after all that due flattery, is why is the default view in the VC in the right seat and not the left? And also why the HUD is only on the right seat? In aviation, the Pilot in Command sits on the left, so natrually that is where I would prefer to sit.

I think harvester's post, back in page 25 of this thread answers this question.

I am aware of this being a work in progress. The state of the addon shows as much. It's still a good idea to write some basic descriptions for features that you create.

Anything user related in OBSP is quickly written down, even if it's subject to change. If you write all the documentation at the final release, things are bound to slip out.

This question has been asked and answered several times before...

I saw the post linked above yours that said there is really only one pilot, that the other guy is a flight engineer, not a first officer, but that still leaves the point, why is the pilot in command sitting in the right seat and not the left. Right seat is convention for rotor-craft. In fixed-wing, the PIC sits left. There is no real difference in the Starliner, the main switches that need flipping are located in the center pedestal, but since the heads up guidance is only right seat, the you kind of have no choice but sit in the right.

Also I question on those who have flown it a lot, how to you go about re-entry and field approach? Normally I try to dead stick the thing the entire way when flying the XR2, avoiding relighting the engines at all costs, but the Starliner is a different beast. With those turbines, I feel the proper procedure would be at somepoint windmill the fans back on and fly a powered descent and approach much like one would a jetliner.

And I seem to have no brakes when I touch down on the runway (so far I have only flown some ciruits around Edwards AFB, haven't tried taking it supersonic yet, let alone space.) Nor trim.

This project is really excited so don't take what I am suggesting the wrong way, but may I suggest in the next WIP release, some form of elevator trim be incorporated to make the sub sonic atmospheric flight a easier to control. The flight dynamics already seem to make good sense, she behaves in the sky the way I feel like she should, if only some trim can be used to keep the nose at the attitude, with the very realistic turbo throttles already incorporated this thing is really on to something here.

Cheers,

and I look forward to what is still to come!
