New Star Wars movies confirmed (NO SPOILERS!)

Whatever people say about the I,II and III episodes, I found revenge of the sith awesome.

Yea, I thought Revenge of the Sith was a halfway decent movie, on pair with Return of the Jedi (maybe slightly less so), but it was plauged by the fact it's predecessors were Episode I and II.

Also the biggest misconception out there on the Internet is the fact that people think Disney is making the movie. That is incorrect, LucasFilm wouldn't agree with completely getting rid of their company. It's like saying Fox Studios made Star Wars in the first place. LucasFilm made Star Wars. Disney is just going to be footing the bill, they've earned the rights to the movie, nothing more. This is still LFL's baby, and they will treat it like what it is - a 7th Star Wars movie. LucasFilm is incharge of principle photography, casting, and directing. That's why I don't have a problem with a Disney/Star Wars flick.

Im hoping they can complete the production in 7 parsecs.

I get it, It is a measure of distance not time, but you will get the point.

Hey, I don't post on this forum very much but Hello.

I think you hit the nail right on the head. Star Wars (the movies) is going to be very much in the creative control of LFL. I think the bigger story is what this is going to mean for other aspects of both Star Wars and Disney. Walt Disney World had their butts handed to them when Universal Orlando opened up their Harry Potter attractions. At the time Disney completely redesigned their Fantasyland makeover to be more competitive. Later they would go on to sign a deal with James Cameron to include an Avatar expansion to their Animal Kingdom park. Neither really caught the attention of the public the way Wizarding World did. As far as theme park attractions go, Disney only has one SW based ride (a simulator ride) and a month long weekend festivity know as 'Star Wars Weekends'. I think Disney's ultimate goal in this is to make at the very least a large park expansion, if not a whole new park, to completely blow Harry Potter out of the water. To continue to have a new movie on the horizon would be the best way to keep people flowing in.

Nothing to do with my above post, but I would also like to point out I've already seen news articles claim Leia is the newest Disney princess, so at least we have that.

Whatever happens, the books will always be canon for me. They were there first. :facts:

It's a good thing this discussion is all online with strangers, I don't want my friends/family/coworkers overhearing my defense of the Star Wars EU.

I don't mean to trample on any toes here but, IMO, everything after the Thrawn Trilogy wasn't that great.

I was discussing this at work today. We agreed that in order for the new movies to suck as much as possible, the following choices should be made:

Leo DiCaprio as Luke
Angelina Jolie as Leia
Ben Affleck as Han Solo
Mila Kunis as Chewbacca, but hidden inside the suit the whole movie so you never actually get to look at her or even hear her real voice.

And to top it off: Michael Bay as Director!

My prediction, If I were a betting man: expectations will naturally be unattainably high (come on, it's Star Wars), but the quality will be disappointingly low (relatively speaking) leading to poor reviews, ticked-off movie-goers, and a whole lot of bad press for the franchise.

Call me pessimistic, but unless they incorporate the EU into the new movies and get some good actors/actresses, it'll essentially be an initially high-grossing flop that will sink in to the movie hall of shame.

Well, look at it this way. Anything released will probably be better than Phantom Menace.

I have very high hopes, as I've already said a page back about how Marvel Studios and Pixar were both purchased by Disney and The Avengers, and all Pixar movies were quite good.

I didn't need that dinner anyway. *Pukes*

Before the prequels premiered, expectations were high (because it was Star Wars), but it didn't live up to expectations. So now, after the release of the prequels, expectations would actually be lower.

Remove George Lucas from Star Wars, the thing has nowhere to go but up. I mean, there is no way anything could be worse than Episodes 1 and 2. Those flicks were total crap. And 3, partial crap. I admit, that opening sequence was pretty solid stuff. I should have left the theater after that and I would have been satisfied. I stuck around for the ending and just saw utter flim gibberish and all the happy feelings of the original trilogy from my childhood was completely washed away and the words "Star Wars" draws only contempt and frustration from me.

At least Georgy wont be able to re-cut the films anymore. Maybe even in the hands of Disney the original cuts will be released on modern media so they can be enjoyed again. Special Edition my behind......Han shot first.

What about the following compromise:

Jason Mewes as Han Solo
Kevin Smith as Chewbacca
Matt Damon as Luke
Salma Hayek as Leia
Angelina Jolie as C3PO
Andy Serkins As R2D2
Christoph Waltz as Imperial Officer

Damn, I had forgotten, this is going to be a Disney movie.

Apparently, there is a petition for Nicolas Cage to be Han Solo:lol:

I remember the fan speculation was that Leo DiCaprio would play Anakin.

I don't understand why Episode I is so disgusting, hideous and terrible that statements like this are commonplace. Yes, it was weird and sort of disappointing, but next to II it's not even really bad. As a kid who loved Star Wars, I thought it was pretty awesome. (Granted I was 9 or 10 at the time...)

I'm guessing Jar Jar.
