OHM FalconHeavy

Not yet. Waiting to see if anyone comes up with any more bugs or suggestions.

Oooops!! My computer just had it's brain fried!! All code for the Falcons gone, so this is as far as it goes for the time being.

Doh!

I would be saying alot more than "Oooops". Too bad there wasn't a back door, password to decypher .dlls.

A bit too late I think? What happened?
Afraid so. Of course, one should back up regularly - but I'm lazy! Last backup was 6 months ago. Don't know if it's hardware failure or a virus that got past my Norton Security. Tried all recovery procedures but no luck. Damn thing won't even boot from a disk or external drive now.

"Oooops" is the printable version  Friend of mine may yet be able to recover the lost code from the harddrive but I'm not holding my breath.

Anyway, 11 years without a major PC problem ain't bad. C'est la vie.

Cheers,
Brian

Backing up now !;)

I just found this unbelievable addon - and it works in Orbiter BETA 12202014 + Jarmonik 01202015 DX9 client - which has water shaders!!!
Did BrianJ thought about compatibility with new Orbiter BETA?
P.S. Most other addons do not work, rockets are at 45% angle on pad, etc.
Falcon - almost perfect.

Now updated on OH with Grid-Fins.
*Apologies to anyone who got the version with the debug data in the bottom left of the screen after booster seperation - download the latest "falconheavy_150309b.zip" and reinstall to fix it.

Regarding compatibilty with Orbiter 2015: CTD when trying to F1 into the cockpit. This is both for 1st and 2nd stage in several scenarios. Crashes also if the vessel is still on the ground, before autopilot is active. Is this just on my installation?

Is that with the latest Orbiter beta? The only "unusual" thing about the cockpit view is the text I put on the HUD. FalconHeavy is VESSEL3 class, with the associated clbkDrawHUD method - not sure if that might be a problem?

Yes, the Orbiter version is 7 Mar 2015, through SVN update.
Re-installed it into a clean directory.
FalconHeavy is falconheavy_150309b

There is this entry in Orbiter.log, see below. But I assume the obsolete API function is active always, not only when in cockpit view.

Amazing! Thank you so much for gridfins!

Just minor detail, would it be possible to have black legs and fins? I think that's design SpaceX wants to use and anyways it would look badass.

Thanks. That API function is active once the autopilot is engaged IIRC. Anyway, I have the new orbiter beta onboard, so will take a look.

You're welcome, the grid-fins were fun to do :-)
If I see a photo of a Falcon9/Heavy with black legs/fins, it shall be so.
I agree about the badassness.

If you're referring to the Falcon Heavy video SpaceX put out, I'm not convinced that wasn't just artistic licence (same with the way 39A was portrayed).

I tested the Falcon Heavy with reusable boosters and an expendable core: it can carry 43 tonnes into low Earth orbit (81% of 53 tonnes).

I think perhaps the 53 ton figure came from non-reusable boosters?

Possible Update?

I love your Falcon Heavy!

A question: The SpaceX Falcon Heavy page now shows liftoff thrust at around 20,400kN, while your version is at about 17,600kN. Second stage thrust is 934kN, compared to 801kN. The gross weights look pretty close, so it doesn't appear that the fuel capacity has changed much, but I don't know for sure.

Would it be possible to update your Falcon Heavy add-on to reflect the latest performance numbers?

Thank you :)

Is that because they are planning to use super-cooled liquid oxygen (Full Thrust) again?

Thanks! Yes, but it's actually quite a lot more work than just updating the mass/thrust parameters, so it might be a while yet. I'm still trying to update my Falcon9R v1.2 to handle all the various different flyback modes, etc.

Is that because they are planning to use super-cooled liquid oxygen (Full Thrust) again?
I'd guess yes. Which would mean an extra ~5% fuel mass over not-super-cooled.

Cheers,
Brian
