Gaming Elite: Dangerous

Had some fun with 2.2 and passengers today.

Some stations look really nice now:

And done ~2300 lightyears round trip because my passenger wanted to look at this planet for 10 seconds (he paid 1.4 million credits for this trip though):

And after the trip I got another 700k from selling astronomical data alone and had nice message:

Almost fried my passenger few times during fuel scooping and managed to ablate 6% of my hull during those scoops.

Damn, I had a 20 mil contract to carry 2 scientists out 20'000 light years, but they wanted first class. Me goes to check if I can buy a first class cabin large enough, yes I can, go back to the passenger lounge, mission is gone.
Apparently they hitched another ride :(
It's kind of rare to find such an interesting contract for such a small capacity.

I've seen a contract worth of 51 million to transfer some scientist far beyond Sag.A, but my relations with the faction weren't friendly enough to access it.

Yesterday I've lost 23 passengers during pirate attack. Now I feel strange about ferrying people in this dangerous space where I will survive in any case, but they're pretty much doomed if something goes wrong. Yeah, they're not real people, I know. But I kinda like pretending the whole thing is for real :shifty:

For some reason cargo delivery missions became ridiculously cheap. I've seen a delivery mission worth of 300 credits. I wouldn't move a finger for payment this small. I wonder if this is because of 2.2 update, or because of my trade rating - I suppose the payment depends on the rating.

Yeah - delivery missions became really cheap and it's not rank based. My "home system" used to offer me agricultural missions paid between 100k and 500k for ~100ly trip and ~16 cargo (legal). Now those missions are gone.

As soon as I get proper rank I'm getting Imp Courier and making "Learjet" from it as it's most profitable atm.

Side note: I like, how "ATC" messages change when you become friendly in the system. Every station is "Honored by your presence".

And I found my "hometown system"

BTW the cargo missions payouts being 90% lower in the 2.2 release is a bug -- Frontier said they are looking into it. Talk about a major bug...

Actually I thought it was a nice rebalance, only that the passenger missions were way overpaid. The economy in E:D just doesn't make any sense when you compare goods prices, cost of transportation and the mission payouts.
And I would like the economy to make a little more sense. It's immersion-breaking for me. And no challenge from a gameplay perspective.

I've got the same thoughts. It's too easy to become a millionaire in Elite. In the very first game of the series you should have worked your butt off to get some real cash.

:censored: you and your :censored:ing mugs. Next stop, Jacques Station.

I'd like to get back into the game, tried it when it came out, but found it a bit overwhelming. I'm not the space-shooter type.

I've got the Horizons season pass, and the last big update has just been downloaded.

What is a good starting(easy!) strategy, and where are the beginner's walkthroughs?

Thanks, N.

At the start you'll have your small but versatile Sidewinder, which is also one of the more agile ships.

Essentially there are are some different career paths:
  • bounty hunting
  • exploring
  • trading
  • mining

If you want to avoid going all pew-pew, I'd focus on trading and exploring, starting with the former to make some cash for some upgrades you'll badly need when outside of the inhabited bubble.

At first I essentially went to the stations' bulletin board, found some trading/smuggling contracts and did them until I had some money.

To explore you'll essentially need the best frameshift drive you can afford, ideally improved through engineers, and a decent fuel scoop to refuel by skimming stars.

When Frontier fix the prices for delivery contracts it will be the easiest way to make money quick. I've got around 35 millions of assets, and I'm still Mostly Harmless, not too much pew-pew was involved.

By the way, they've sentenced Kahina Loren to life imprisonment, as Galnet says. I guess she'll escape in the nearest time  Just finished reading 'Elite: Reclamation' book, where this chatacter is taken from. The book itself is... let's say, I would have liked it when I was twelwe or something.

True, the freight delivery prices currently appear bugged. Installing a small cabin and taking on some self-loading freight might be a better option for now.

Picked up the season pass thingie this weekend and I must say that, so far, I don't regret it. I hadn't played E:D for quite some time and when I saw the rewards for freight deliveries, my motivation slipped away a bit..

For now, I think I will focus on getting back in the game and some mining ops as will as exploration. Oh, and to keep giving some affection to the girl and attention to the house, as time seems to slip away once you've started

Played a bit more. The training scenarios have changed? better now with a narrator(Blaine?) just following that at the moment.
Couldn't get the landing gear key to work"insert", re-mapped to "L", seems ok now. Might be my laptop, though it does have a separate keypad.
Nice graphics, though ship control is still twitchy for me.

Pennington Survey land base on Enuma 2 is located (almost) at the bottom of the large crater which is located at the bottom of an even bigger (ok, just plain giant) crater. The settlement is located several kilometers lower than the bigger crater's edge.
Surface temperature is 535K, gravity is 1.22G. The hell of a place.
