Gaming Digital Combat Simulator Thread

The downloadable training videos seem to be quite good and cover everything (Training in main menu, then A-10A, there should be a "Install" button).

We really need some A-10As in our next session. And playable ground units + playable JTACs, I'd really love to see how this feels like in multiplayer.

They cover a lot indeed, but I like the "instructor tells you what to do and you follow" method.

Yes, I like this as well, that's how I learned the A-10C within a week,
they should put some more effort into the training section and make interactive training missions for all the aircraft.
This low resolution videos seem to be from the old LOMAC days, the scenery looks like Crimea to me.

Yesterday:
"I give up. I will never be able to do this with this cheap hardware. In FC2 and LOMAC you were able to engage the autopilot while refueling.
BAM BAM BAM. Feel the GAU-8, stupid tanker..."

Earlier Today:
"The needles aren't moving at all. Do I need to keep behind the tanker for hours or what?"

Now:
"It looks like the A is buggy and doesn't take any fuel. Let's take the C model."

Let's do this!

What?! Transfer complete!

This are certainly not the 12% fuel I started with! :woohoo:

Let's see what our big friend is doing...

SORRY! Didn't expect any stupid overreaction because of an approaching A-10...

I believe you are right. Had the same experience.

It also seems that the log book has stopped working - as in, it does not register and total hours anymore. I am not sure if this was since the last major update of DCS or since I installed the A-10A add on, as I did not play a great deal after the update. I should have almost three hours in the A-10A, but the log book says zero.

And...

Waiting with anticipation (as I think many must be) for this one; Mig 21.

Is that pilot dead?

Tried again with the next Su-25A mission. First time around, I got to the runway, and accidentally retracted the landing gear instead of deploying the flaps. Oops. Couldn't get the ground crew to repair the aircraft--there was like a minute delay until they said "copy" and then they never actually started repairing. Fortunately, I got a result of 50 in that one, so I didn't get moved back a campaign step and was able to try again.

On the do-over, I made it to the target area, pretty much exactly right on time so that I'd be dropping my bombs on the target at the designated time--but the target wasn't in the expected place/expected line, so I maneuvered around to make a pass on what was showing up on the map as the 355th artillery battalion, which was supposedly my target. Couldn't get a good angle and completely missed...and then when I was coming back for another pass, I saw that a whole line of targets had spawned in the expected place. I took out one with rockets and one with a Kh-25ML, but then took a couple MANPADs and was forced to eject moments before my plane exploded.

Hey, at least I lived, giving me a result of...50.

Let me re-iterate...the targets did not spawn until the exact moment when I was supposed to be attacking them. What the hell. Seriously, at least spawn them a couple minutes beforehand so if I'm actually on time (instead of late like I have been in my previous attempts) I can line up on the targets...

I think I'm done with this buggy and awful Su-25A campaign--I have no particular desire to fly for half an hour over the same scenery (not that I can really enjoy the scenery anyway, without an autopilot) just to discover some new and interesting way the mission is broken.

The A-10A doesn't support laser guided bombs? That seems odd considering that the model (at least the one shown in the training videos EDIT: same with the in-game model) has the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pave_Penny"]Pave Penny [/ame]pod hanging down, and the base A-10 (even before the A-10A) supported laser guided bombs way back in the A-10 Cuba game from the mid-90s...

Wait for one of the excellent 50-75% off Steam sales to pick up the more expensive ones, IMO. Also, don't forget about the Su-25T just because it's free--as my woes above document, the Su-25T is worth more than the Su-25A.

Or the next spring sale of Eagle Dynamics.

Also the A-10C is really the highlight of the series, but requires a lot of effort for learning to use its systems effectively.

Also, there is a HUGE difference between the A-10A and the A-10C: The Mavericks of the A-10C need 3 minutes for alignment, the A-10A was simpler.

Yeah, I get the impression that the A-10A is a whole lot closer to the Su-25T in terms of complexity, which is why I went for it first, and then once I'm used to reading English instead of Russian again maybe I'll go up to the A-10C...

Still disappointed by the lack of laser-guided munitions for the A-10A. I guess it's because the A-10A can't do its own target designation, and only the A-10C supports things like JTAC target designation?

Yes. Possibly because it also makes little sense in DCS to add passive laser designation to it, because you don't have a terminal in the A-10A to select a laser code anyway.

What about a sessions next Sunday?
If yes, is there a volunteer to host the session (as I have no knowledge about it).
I have no problems with hosting a TS session if required.

Not yet sure if I will be around for the weekend... at least on the Saturday, I will likely be completely useless for a good session... its wok racing time again.

I still need to fix my control set for the F-15C... the result of the first flight with a F-15 since LOMAC:

A hard time finding out which damn button on my A-10C HOTAS was for firing the AIM-120C, randomly releasing bursts of cannon fire during the process.

One Su-27, one Tu-22M and two MiG-23 shot down during the flight before A MiG-29 managed to shoot me down while flying with a single engine and no ammo left.

But still, should air superiority ever get contested... I can still help

I think I'll be able to host a session next sunday. On demand on saturday too. Are there any special demands concerning the mission, aircraft, gameplay or other matter?
Is there a recommondation on the start time for the session? When are most people available?

I'll add these to the default Weapons Training mission. How do you make JTAC and ground-units playable for CA players? Is there a special setting or can they control any unit which is not specifically prohibited to control?

The time of the last session was pretty good, the aircraft selection as well.

The targets had been a bit too well-sorted, maybe have better mix of hard and soft targets with some easy air defenses... maybe one easy group and a more well defended group.

I would prefer a "Loiter" waypoint 20 NM away from the targets, even without a JTAC, it is pretty good to retreat to a safe distance from air defenses and analyse the situation.

Is there any interest in a DNS name for the session(s)? It will be something like dcs.dmweijers.nl. I have this domain name which I don't really use. It's easier then remembering the IP and it doesn't change when someone else hosts the session (except for me of course since I have to change the IP in the control panel :P)

Let me know!

Every unit which has "player can drive" checked should be playable, for JTAC you propably need to change the numbers on the role screen (that button with the two flags in the mission editor).

Sunday/saturday evening is also good for me, I'll again be able to host a TS server.

I'm too for some more air defenses to spice things up!

Just not too strong air defenses... anything with a range past the 5 NM of the Maverick is too dangerous for a A-10C.
