Olympics 2012

I'm personally looking forward to canoe slalom. :)

I'm nice and secluded here in the countryside. I might tune in to watch the opening ceremony, but that's it.

I am going to launch 99 red balloons, when the winds are right. :shifty:

Lucky you wish I was, I can't believe they are actually thinking of shooting down if need be a civilian commercial Jet over one of the most densly populated cities in the world, it would do just as much damage on the ground as a genuine attack! didn't think that one through did they!

I'm not so much into the summer Olympics anyway. Will probably watch the rowing and bits and pieces of the other events, but I'd rather go for snowboarding and hockey.

Not stereotypical at all... :shifty:

Oh, I bet it will be quite an experience when it's got going. Is that seriously what they're planning to do with the missiles? Yeah, I can't see why bringing a plane down ourselves is the best way to stop a terrorist attack

Is this dual layer phase-shifted uncoated cardboard made of 50% recycled paper and 50% regrowing resources? Labelled with a solvent-free water-based marker pen? We had been talking about such technologies for years here, but never saw them put into use.

What really amazes me is the bipedal sentient manipulating it. Look at the beard - it must have cost an arm and a leg to model all that hair! I wonder if it's a one-shot prototype or if they're already in mass production.

Who knows why they are there dosen't seem very appropriate to me as its a peace time sporting event.
what I do know is this, My brother-in-law flie's out of stapleford North London (light aircraft) for the next month or so everything in london airspace MUST file a flight plan regardless of what aircraft it is, if you deviate from that flight plan in any way what so ever I'm guessing your gonna be in a lot of S&%t with a rapier closing in on your but.
So for everyone on all aircraft and those on the ground lets hope every single pilot gets it right for the duration of the olympics.

That was definitely a unique opening ceremony. The rise of the industrial age was pretty cool!

I loved the whole show. The comedy of Mr. Bean was iceing on a very well made cake. No idea how that can be topped in 4 years.

Very well done Opening Ceremony. My favorite parts were the pyrotechnics racing around the stadium, and the cauldron and lighting thereof. That is a beautiful appliance and the lighting ceremony was very well done!

Well, it was spectacular and funny. However, the part with the English countryside being torn up and riddled with smokestacks, and then they all go forging a giant ring lighted up a massive Elvish warning signs in my mind.

Daniel Craig as 007 parachuting Her Majesty into the stadium while giving the Corgis the evil eye was hilarious as well.

However, what I would have really liked to see would have been David Tennant dressed up as the Tenth Doctor carrying the torch for the final steps.:P

I go right past the Olympics site in Stratford every single day as its on my way to work.

When the Olympics happen I won't be able to get there because all the trains are commandeered for the Olympics.
Interesting.
From what i've heard, during Sydney olympics they asked everyone of the city folks not directly involved in making the olympics happen to go see their grandparent farm or something and vacate the city for the duration if they can.

Anything like that in London?
Any free holidays, leaves from work, etc?

I think if people are staying away its on their own backs due to the absolute chaos being caused on the London transport networks at the moment.

Not a Chance this is England and in the western world we are the hardest worked and lowest paid nation officially! we are the slaves for the wealthy! they moaned about giving us time off for the queens celebrations and royal wedding because they said it was damaging for the ecconomy!

I also LOVED the ceremony - it was way more than I expected. So much good music and so many fantastic cultural references. So fantastic.
