What would be really a cool addition to the XR series would be a pointable Hi Gain antenna which can also be used as Rendezvous Radar... currently, they have no communications at all. ;)

Thanks for answering the questions, Doug :)

No, only the most recent thing with the temperature control was rethorical, becuase I really was melting away here yesterday afternoon :beach:

The idea of an 3D-Cockpit sound nice! Also I like the "cooler" dark blue of the XR2's panels compared to the standard grey of the previous vehicles.

Btw, do you still remember the idea of having a Crew Management MFD for feeding the crew and such things? Too bad that I don't have any experience with coding, maybe somebody would like the idea to code such a thing?

And finally a word to woo: Is the rover your first work? I have to say, that it's quite impressive. Well done ;). *hands woo another cookie ;)*

Cheers,

YES !!!!!!!! A cookie for me :) and yes its my first work I got some help from gattispilot he got it in to orbiter and he coded it

Yes, I always thought they needed at least a Ku band antenna. A large, unfolding hi-gain for those deep-space missions would be nice, too. I always thought rendezvous, docking and landing could be handled by a series of LIDAR modules.

That upper hatch on the XR2, though, would make a good place for a phased array radar (forward and aft) and with the front docking port, its not really needed as a hatch. (And how do you get down from up there?)

Maybe you could even have several configuration profiles for different missions. Such as an "Earth Orbit Configuration" which features the Ku-Band antenna and an "Deep Space Configuration" which has one container space occupied with a fuel/LOX (or supply) container and the foldable antenna.

Would also give an idea for an malfunction: The antenna could get stuck, as on Galileo and you have to EVA for an repair.

Ok, hmmmm...Wishlist for XR3: An hydraulic operated ramp in the lower side of the payload bay to allow the operations of rovers and alike motorised planetary explorations vehicles, using the vessel as an operation and resupply base (NASA document stlye :P)

What do you think about that?

very impressive design
looks like DG a lot but it has its own character

Well, anything is possible. If there is a bottom-loading feature to the bay it will have to be an elevator as opposed to a ramp for technical reasons with the Orbiter core: there is no easy way to "drive down a ramp" because the child vessel would fall through the ramp as soon as it detached from its parent vessel. However, an elevator would work because we could just translate the child vessel down to the surface along with the elevator platform. In any case, the XR3 is still a long way off because the XR2, XR2 mk II, XR7, and XR0 will likely come first.

Happy July 4th, all! I'm off to a barbecue in about 30 minutes. I suspect most of the entire nation is BBQing today... :beach:

oh well enjoy your BBQ :)

Happy 4th to you and have a good time! We may not all have rockets but Orbiter will do quite well in that sector!
*Loads up XR5 to deliver fireworks for tonight*

If it only blew up all the annoying people in the world, I might be more willing to press it... Anyway, I have to get back to searching for that white button.

Oh, well done with the people Coolhand.

i have a question about the ravenstar: it have emergency ejection????

No I don't think it will

Earlier on either Coolhand or dbeachy1 said that none of the XRvessels will have ejection capability on them:( although someone did say that the Ummu had a 'bailout' command in which all the crew will leave the ship through the primary airlock or cabin hatch:lol:

yes ummu does have a bailout command
