Humor World Cup 2010

That's not usual national press standard. It didn't mention the war!

Also, they wouldn't have selected the image of Klose there if they had not been in a bad shape: Anybody who knows Klose knows, that his face in this photograph is for his standards shortly before exploding with joy.

As comparison: Klose and some others of the national team with Shakira:

His scared face is completely different.

Actually when it comes to World Cup humor I much prefer the soloists part to this new concerto...

LOOOL, hilerious. Especially the playing-style "insistendo quasi le vespe".

("Insisting, quasi like a wasp")

What I find interesting is that no one here in the US actually cares about the world cup. I didn't even find out that the world cup was happening until BBC America mentioned the upcoming US, Great Britain match. The news doesn't even mention it. What is making the news is the Stanley cup match that has been over for a while.

Strange, because there are also reports about this World Cup reaching record interest in the USA, with sport bars being crowded in the morning hours and ESPN having record shares by showing football. It even has effect on Wall street, with the trading dropping during the matches.

I have seen nothing in the news about the standings of the teams. Who's playing anyway?

The only people who are paying attention to this are soccer(football) fans. How does the cup work? How do they choose which teams get to play at the cup?

By the qualification matches, that took part in each continental confederation. Each confederation has a different number of slots for the world cup, the number depends on the FIFA rating of the teams in the confederation - this is why South America has relatively many clubs in the World cup (5 out of 10), while North America has only 3 teams (3 + one play off against the 5th of the CONMEBOL). Europe's UEFA had 13 slots for 53 teams in the qualification - that is why the qualification matches start here right at the end of the European Cup. The hosting countries national team is automatically qualified, just like the former finalists.

At the beginning of the world cup, you have 32 out of 204 teams left.

The FIFA Rating depends on how the teams performed in previous qualifications and tournaments.

Until yesterday you had the group stage, of 32 teams in 8 groups, of which the two best teams in each group qualify for the knockout stage.

The next 4 days will see the round of sixteen, followed by the quarter finals, the semi finals and eventually the final and the match for rank three.

You can complain a bit about the fairness in the selection, since a lot of the actual ratios was decided by back room politics, but the teams in the world cup are the best 32 out of 204 teams.

The whole world is watching, and lots of your fellow countrymen have joined them. Right now on ABC we are playing Ghana. Tune-in for the second half and watch the beautiful game!

Here we can watch it on RTL, with tactical analysis outside the game by coach Jürgen Klopp (who also did such analysis for the last world cup), and with Jürgen Klinsmann(former German national trainer, former manager and striker of Orange County Blue Star) as co-commentator.

It is maybe as hard for some US citizens to understand the "soccer" world,as it is for me to understand american football and its major figures ;)

And the USA equalized after a great penalty shot by Donovan. 1:1

The USA must really have come a long way from England...

I have checked the ''vuvuzela level'' on different channels yesterday and I think that the BBC had a filter working. It was the only channel where I could hear chanting. The Belgians turned the stadium noise completely down, which gets boring after a while.
The Dutch channel has turned the volume down a bit but not as much as the Belgians.
I haven't checked ZDF or whatever channel it is being broadcasted on in Germany.

Concern all your people lucky. You hear that buzzzzzz only when you watching a game. I am content with it every day at the hour at the minute.......argggggggggggg.It genuinely sound like a big swarm of bees. :hail:

I'm pretty happy for Ghana to get through, but it does suck that it came at our expense. Oh well, the US met their goals and had a fun run. Still, some good matches coming up with Spain-Portugal and England-Germany being some of the tastier matchups

The USA lost the game standing, so I would say it was a fair match between two almost equally strong teams, in which the better endurance of the Ghanaian players paid out in the end - the USA players had been running badly on reserves during their final charge.

A fabulous performance for the Ghana tonight. 2-1. Africa go on !

The Americans have shown exemplary courage and impressive collective values.

The Mensah's partners join Cameroon and Senegal, only African nations have reached the quarter-finals of a World Cup.

You obviously speak for yourself, not the entire US population.

Aye. We didn't have legs towards the end, but kept fighting and ended up losing to a quality side. Personally, I'm proud that we played hard and left it all out on the field. Hopefully it helps improves the state of football in America and is not just a fleeting interest. Now I'm looking forward to seeing Holland win the cup.

lol

As said above, both the USA & the Ghana teams deserved to win this match. But there's only 1 seat for the quarter finals. That's sport. Very interesting match, the two teams really gave everything they had. That's what I call soccer !

The encounter between Ghana and Uruguay promises to be beautiful too.
