Project Space Shuttle Vessel

I'm not making payloads* for the shuttle, but only the "NASA parts": upper stages, support structures, etc. So anyone can make the payloads that were launched or, more interestingly, the ones that weren't launched, or even invent new payloads.
Off the top of my head: there was a larger version of COBE that was going to be launched from the shuttle in Vandenberg, and the Spitzer telescope and Mars Observer were originally also shuttle payloads. There are also the military sats: I added the SPDS, so AFP-731 can now be launched (good luck knowing how it looked), there is also the DSCS pair from 51-J, and there is always the capability to make a KH-11 retrieval mission.
So there are dozens of payloads that can already be launched from SSV. The required work is mostly modelling and mission planning, as SSV has no shuttle-payload electrical or communications interface to complicate the payload. BTW, discrete commands can be sent to a payload from the upper stages, as explained in the manual. If there is "payload making information" missing in the manual, let me know.

Looking forward, I can say there is a high chance that we are going to have the PAMs "soon", as in before v2.0, and if I'm lucky even an improved IUS. I might even loose my mind and improve the Centaur in the process. But then, all this might require major changes that break compatibility, and so it could have to wait for v2.0... I don't yet.

*) as a separate project, I have the 3 flown probes (Galileo, Magellan and Ulysses) mostly done, for several years now, but SSV (and now Orbiter) is sucking up all of my free time. That and some Orbiter limitations mean that it is not progressing as fast as it should, but eventually it will get done.
the payloads section if the mission tool has a "Scenario Parameters" window, and ive seen no documentation about how those can be used. what can that control, if anything, right now?

It allows the user to input the scenario parameters for a vessel. Payloads will automatically have the ATTACH parameter set, but custom parameters (e.g., solar panel position, etc) have to be defined by the user. Other vessels need everything, as you can see if you open STS-114 and go to the Other Vessels tab.

As a mesh/payload maker for sts2016 and Shuttle fleet. The payloads are separate vessels and have unique controls. For the clamshells K usually open them.

unfortunately im unable to get most of those payload vessels working in 2016 with SSV, hence my motivation to start making some simple payloads

So, I'm using SSV Mission Editor to calculate OMS-1 and 2 burns, but i get a very long burn time with a crazy DV. I also realized that my pre-calculated MECO values are different from the values I'm getting during the flight.

some help ?

First, forget about the stuff in the "Legacy MECO" frame, and use only the controls in the "Ascent Target" frame, which use math from @indy91 and are much closer to reality.
Second, are you hitting the Save button after editing? (and then you also must save the overall mission)

Yes sir, I did.

And as you can see on my picture, the OPS 104 PEG 4 values is the same of I have in the Mission Editor Ascent Target, I am not sure, but I this is looking like an issue associated with the different values I'm getting during MECO (MECO planned values on Mission Editor is 85x3NM and I getting 52x-146NM). 🤔
It kinda looks like you ran out of prop... you can check that in the orbiter log.
Assuming the mission is STS-9, you should be using 104% SSME, LWT ET and HPM SRM. Also, it seems the target altitude is 135NM circular, and not 150. Payload mass should be around 32klbs (can't show that in Mission Editor as it can't figure out the mass of dll vessels, so the user has to figure that out). Right now I don't have the OMS load, but it probably was not 100%... I can get you those numbers later today.

Total payload mass for STS-9 was 33,252 lbm (15 265 kg), this excludes the 573 lbm (259 kg) Cargo Bay Stowage Assembly (CBSA) box. OMS propellant loadings for the mission was 7877 lbm in each OMS pod.

The Spacelab Long Module itself was 18,135 lbm (8 145 kg) while the single pallet was 7749 lbm (3 386 kg).

Let me say first I do not want to step on people toes/offend them.

I get asked about payloads. I modified the STS payloads which were for ShuttleFleet. I modified for STS2016. As SF really does not not work in 2016.

I have modified some of mine to work in SSV. But as I stated earlier No desire/intent to step on toes. I got Skylab to occupy me

Here is what I did to get STS 5 into SSV. A lot of these are spacecraft3/4. They don't easily load from the editor. I remade the PAM and ASE for STS2016 and then adjusted for SSV. In the ASE is a control panel to rotate the satellite. Then releases the PAM and Sat.

The Mission Editor? Adding a SC vessel probably won't be as easy as a "regular" vessel, but it should still work.
Until SSV gets native PAMs, the easiest way is probably to add the cradle as passive payload, allowing for correct positioning in the PLB, and add the PAM and payload as "Other Vessels", and in the scenario parameters add the ATTACH param to attach the PAM to the cradle, and the payload to the PAM.

Sorry scenario editor.

define updated interior. SSV currently has the MEDS or "Glass Cockpit" setup, which was the upgrade from the MCDS or "CRT" cockpit.
I mean an updated mesh or 3D model and textures. The exterior looks amazing but the interior seems very dated and low quality... When will we see an updated interior 3D model? Similar to Flight Gear atleast.

Whats wrong with using Flightgear if you need that?

this looks amazing, will we ever get an updated interior mod though?
Thanks!
Yes, eventually it will have a more accurate virtual cockpit, and also the original MCDS layout, but there is no point in having all those mechanical displays if they cannot be driven properly, so GPC software is a higher priority at the moment.
My point of view, not shared by many, is that having a pretty model with no functionality, is no better than watching a video.... and I want much more.

Well, flight gear is the opposite, lol. The interior looks okay, but the exterior is outdated. And you cannot really make any custom missions (that didn't happen in real life) in Flight Gear like you can in Orbiter. I just believe the systems of this mod have become advanced enough to allow us to have updated textures or a rework of the 3D model inside.
