I saw that earlier today.

Info for those who don't know: In previous Ace Combat games, the setting was a fictional world known as "(the) Strangereal (world)" (like the real world, only stranger). A key part of the backstories for several Ace Combat games that took place in Strangereal was the Ulysses 1994XF04 asteroid, which impacted the planet in 1999 and directly/indirectly caused some of the wars in which the AC games take place.

However, Ace Combat Infinity takes place on our Earth, with an alternate timeline. Here, Ulysses is designated as 1986VG1, for it is named after [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5254_Ulysses"]an actual asteroid[/ame] (a Jupiter Trojan). In the trailer (0:37), it seems to pass within the roche limit of a fictional moon of Jupiter named Polyphemus in 1994, causing it to split into many smaller asteroids headed towards Earth. Although the real Ulysses was nowhere near Jupiter during that year.

Those turrets that were designed as an anti-asteroid weapon are known as the "Stonehenge Turret Network". Here is its story.

But in Infinity, it is now located in Turkey for some reason (1:19).

What I didn't know about my state... there is a unique floating moor at the coast, between Jade and Weser. During storm floods, it rises and begins to float, leaving everything on top of it intact and dry. It is now only 10 hectar large and the last house on top of it was demolished in 1906, after centuries of settlements: While it is pretty safe during a storm flood, a moor is a pretty annoying place to settle most of the time.

Today, you can make guided tours through it, it is part of the Wattenmeer national park.

http://xkcd.com/519/

Saw this on XKCD and it brought to mind a funny thought

I discovered Orbiter while sitting in the computer lab at school, while I was supposed to be doing work for data management (I did pass that class by a mile, just for the record). Since discovering Orbiter, I've learned to program, and my interest in physics, math, etc. has really awakened.

Wouldn't it have been awful if I had been doing what I was supposed to be doing?

I always feel that there's something wrong in this xkcd.
The 900 hours of classes contributed a whole lot to career success, at least they lead to passed tests and without that you'd fail school and good luck finding a good career without high school graduation.

On the other hand I agree with the homework, never did my maths homework from grade 9 to 12 and got an B+ in my Abitur. In retrospect I could have probably got a much better graduation with the proper attitude.

Well its not that "normal education" is flawed. Its just that sitting in school and learning about a subject cant hope to match the intensity of wanting to learn it on your own because You Just Must Know

This typhoon is on final approach to strike almost overhead at Cat. 2 strength (was Cat. 5 when passing between Taiwan and the Philippines) ..... probably the most serious typhoon threat here for more than a decade or more! Let's see if the city will be flooded overnight.... :shifty:
