A question to German people here:
Let's say you want to make a campfire/bonfire on your back yard (i.e. to make kebab or sing camping songs during a friendly reunion).
Do you need to get a permit to do this?

Specifically, at a single residence house (smaller than a townhouse, but bigger than a shack, with one family in it, with a bit of private land around - no idea what is the english word for дача/dacha) approximately in suburbs of Berlin.

Someone i talked to think one have to get a permit even to light a fire over there, therefore the said reunion would be doomed before it even got planned.

Usually, there is no permit needed - but you better inform the fire department, what you are up to, because otherwise, you have many guests at your kebab. The smallest unit that a fire department deploys for a reported fire, is a full platoon.

Aside of this, your neigbors can direct the public order office against you, if you make a fire too often and annoy them with the smoke. But what is too much depends on the local definitions and is in my experience pretty pyromaniac friendly. In Berlin, it might be possible that there are local other regulations that limit your right to light a fire - for example in an allotment club.

I'm in intense time pressure right now to support coverage on web of tomorrow's Japan new rocket launch, the SpaceX Fan Fall 2013 General Meeting.....I mean the Falcon 9 launch, the beer-keg-swan maiden voyage, an Atlas V launch on Wednesday and the first flight of the Bombardier CSeries on Tuesday (luckily before the Cygnus launch). Luckily the Proton Hypergolic Monster that was supposed to came back for flight on Tuesday (!) has called in sick, or else I might have to call in sick for that day as well..... :rofl:

Considering Italian space engineering is done in cooperation with French, Germans, Spain etc. that sounds reasonable.

But here its all in Spanish at least until end of regular studies.

Nevertheless, at least lowest English certificates are required the 4th year (mandatory).

Cool! They were at the local airport's airshow this year, only a few km from our house. I couldnt get there for work that day, so I got to stay home & see the demonstrations right out of our backyard.

Well, we usually get either the Thunderbirds or the Blue Angels, and those guys can be heard from my place, which is about 10 miles from the airport. If you're lucky, you can see then too when they go ballistic.

If you were being very formal or specific about it, such a thing would be called a "single family (detached) home", but in the US it would usually just be referred to as a "house", given that a good fraction of the country lives in single-family suburban residences.

The English Wikipedia article on dachas notes that they were limited in the Soviet era to 270 ft^2, which is quite small for a suburban American house, but "house" is in general probably a good translation for "dacha".

Thats odd. My flying instructor was getting me to fly only with my left hand last time, but I was on the left hand side of the cabin. Whats the convention when theres only one seat like above?
