That's just as bad as the classic "Keyboard not detected, press any key to continue."
That's from BIOS POST, I think. IIRC most BIOSes phrase it that way:

Keyboard error or keyboard not present. Press F1 to continue.

I always disable the "Report keyboard errors" in BIOS settings on all of my computers. But what if it's some headless machine (no display, no keyboard, no mouse) and CMOS settings are reset to default by accident after power failure? - The server is down. It couldn't pass the BIOS Power On Self Test. ;)

Which is a good thing IMO. This prevents the OS from booting with a possibly misconfigured BIOS or, more likely, damaged hardware.

Don't know exactly who the voice is, but according to http://www.answers.com/topic/another-planet-voyager it's a sample from Jeff Wayne's musical version of The War of the Worlds

Following that link, the most likely candidate is 'Julie Covington' http://www.answers.com/topic/julie-covington ... she has an album available on Amazon ... she is singing in the samples, but the voice sounds pretty close ...

... that's a best guess based on a few minutes searching the interweb.

... sorry ... got bored and thought I'd try to track it down. :P

ok ... I was way wrong on that ... the guy's voice is definitely sampled from "War of the Worlds" ... just finished listening to the album again. Now I'm really curious about the origin of the female voice ... but I'm beginning to think it's just totally synthesized. :(
I was refering to how similar it sounded to the DG-IV's onboard computer. Didn't mean to sent you on an internet wide quest, sorry.

I wish I didn't have to work so I could stay home today, Friday the 13th, and launch Orbiter with the Apollo 13 scenario at 1:13 pm.

I have permanent marker on my left arm. It spells "Love". I don't mind, but I wish she'd wait until I've said yes before drawing on me...
Also, I want breakfast. And caffiene.

The German Retailer Saturn is currently running an advertisement campaign in German TV starring Alice Cooper...and they even made a homepage of it...

I am still not sure if I should laugh or bow down and shout "I am not worthy!".

Even on the forefront of humanity's advance towards realising its potential, the young and aspiring species is haunted by their addiction to the inhibitive tribal traditions that have served nothing but self-destruction ever since they've outlived their usefulness to the hunter-gatherer who couldn't make sense of the night sky fifty millennia ago...

Whilst we're massively off-topic, does anyone else have an itchy knee? Three of us suffered this today at the office. I'm afraid it's the next type of pelican-flu.

In a recent city wide survey, my suburb was voted "most boring". From the subset of respondents in our local district, it was voted "most exciting". Is the logical inference that my neighbours find boredom exciting?

Well boredom is relative :D
That is true. What the rest of the city probably doesn't realise is that we are all inside flying our DGIVs about the solar system*. Probably looks boring from the outside...

* In case you doubt it, our local school recently sent a bunch of of kids to Space Camp: http://www.eastwood.nsw.edu.au/spacecamp/

In other news, the Tinderbox (aka south-eastern Australia) is ready for the summer again:

I don't know what the hell happened. One day, I couldn't land on a carrier in FSX Acceleration for the life of me. THe next day, I'm doing it 8/10 of the times I try.

Did you hail :probe: each landing, it helps.

My 5 years old nephew put the wood burner apart a few weeks ago, and plugged it in, without noticing the shorted wires.
Popped the circuit breakers across the building and fused the plug into the socket.

Now, the LHC was started again this night, and that reminded me of the story -
The scientists are like children, asking what would happen if we open the box, forgetting to consider the unforeseen consequences.
Only, their scale is a little different.
