Ha. Most expensive ferry ever! 🤣
Or the cheapest, given that the Navy already owned it:

They were rebasing the ship, IIRC from San Francisco to Seattle. That involves moving the effects of 5000 sailors and their families. Do you hire 5000 UHauls and pay for gas for the trucks and for all the personal vehicles to drive that distance, or do you take advantage of having a vessel with tons of cargo space that almost* never stops for gas.

Technically, it never* stops for gas at all, only for uranium, and that rarely.

**Well, actually it does stop for gas, because F-18s are thirsty beasts. It just never stops for its own gas.

The first Grand Slam bomb dropped in WWII was supposedly dropped on a town called Bielefeld.

I guess the actual target remains classified, as everyone knows that Bielefeld does not exist.

Many things stopped existing after a Grand Slam was dropped on them....

I passed all my HGV Theory tests, now I'm having to wait till November before I can start on the practical training. I could start next week but I would still have to wait till November for a Test, So I am going to wait. And that is assuming there is not any Covid-19 related shenanigans.

So apparently everybody in Switzerland is now looking for "full value developers"... But nobody can tell me what that is supposed to be, exactly? I know full stack, obviously, but I have no idea yet what that new thing is, and I'm starting to doubt people looking for one have any of themselves, or they all have different ones.

I wonder what the current tenants on Ascension Island think of the proposal. Also it is going to cost a fortune maintaining a facility like that 1200km from the nearest land (and that is another mid-Atlantic Island).

Everybody? You mean the Arctive AG is now everbody?

"Role: Backend developer"

From reading what they want, I would say, they expect people, who can combine business engineering with some software development. All based on the ServiceNow platform, which for example Volkswagen also uses.

Generally, the job description spans too much. On one hand, they talk about active development. On the otherhand, they expect somebody with the experience to be a product owner and software architect.

Not very much according to other sources.
Its totally impractical and makes you wonder why they bring up these stories. Unless its a distraction ploy of course...

Saw a couple more with the term, though admittedly "everybody" is probably overdoing it a bit.
Maybe it's a weird translation of "Vollwertiger Entwickler"? Though who would be looking for anything less?

Doesn't it always, though? 😄

Well, the Business Administration guy in me translates this buzzword as "A developer who is active along the whole value stream."

In most cases, this is already the case if you are just a regular developer. But for some special areas, you also have a lot of consulting and non-software development, that usually other specialists cover. For example, in this case, it is about turning internal services into workflows provided by a common service portal, in which case the value stream of the project for the customer involves a lot of typical consulting work: Analysing the business processes, developing a new process and managing the change process towards the new digital process. The reference to ITIL is an important hint there, which kind of customers will be involved. (But my ITIL Foundation V3 certification is almost 9 years old now)

Still, what I mean with that it spans too much is rather, in the typical omnipresent scrum process model today, the "full value developer" would at the same time fill the roles of product owner and developer. That can't work in a single project or just at the same time.
