I jest. Linux is a fine OS for a distinct set of requirements, just like Windows is. Provided both are put to uses for which they were designed, they usually perform admirably (assuming correct configurations and eliminating user error).

Yesterday I had a collegaue telling me why Solaris was superior to everthing else and apparently it's because of it's ZFS file system (Which is quite clever) and bullet proof libs that allow programs compiled on earlier solaris versions to work on the latest.

Solaris is kind of like the BSD's: fun to use, but too much work for an everyday OS.

That's what I get for writing it early in the day. What I meant was it was something to do with Solaris v linux and libs. Sometimes a lib gets recompiled and the new version is included in the latest distro. Your software then doesn't work due a lib and you've no idea why or which one.

That's what I get for writing it early in the day. What I meant was it was something to do with Solaris v linux and libs. Sometimes a lib gets recompiled and the new version is included in the latest distro. Your software then doesn't work due a lib and you've no idea why or which one.

That seems to me like a pretty severe flaw in the design of the system...

Personally I prefer Windows 7 above all else
Reasons:

• User friendly
• 64-bit
• Looks nice
• Stable

And reason I don't like Macs:

• Hard to upgrade for a regular PC user
• Got jack games
• Comes with the worst mouse known to man
• Keyboard ('nuff said)

I use Win7, but I really hate how it has so many security features.

1. Asking if you're sure you want to run a "new" .exe every single time.
2. Asking if you're sure you want to merge folders.
3. Internet Exploder
4. UAC turned on by default.

Turn UAC off, and use a different browser, and those last two are solved.

Hate that first one. I would like to stop it doing that too.

As for merging folders, I always assumed it was checking if I wanted to overwrite files, until I realised some years back it asks me twice for confirmation (Been a Windows habit for a while, that).

Also how you have to restart your computer even after doing minor midifications to the system.

Now to flame on Macs (specifically the newer laptops):
1. Overpriced, not just because of the screen. Nearly EVERYTHING on a typical macbook is way overpriced.
2. Keyboard.
3. OS is too user friendly.
4. Laptops are way too thin.

Windows gets accused of this a lot, and while it has some truth, I haven't been forced into rebooting this Win 7 box for at least two months due to Windows needing to reboot (Then I manually did a Windows update, and I needed to then, obviously). I've had to start it back up after a few power failures and because I booted into a pendrive system rescue linux install (Making the install, rather than rescuing the system), but really, it's got similar uptime stats to the debian server next to it.

oh... uh.. but for what it's worth I can't own any other type of computer because I would not be able to use orbiter so smoothly and carefree! For a computer my OS allegiance lies mainly in my ability to run or not run orbiter (seriously!) my favorite OS and device is the old Palm OS 5 and a palm TX (not the web OS on current palm phones) without these I my life would be in a disorganized shambles!
