Orbiter Screenshot Thread

No plans to develop this; was just playing with the model to see what might be achievable by someone (else) who actually knows what they are doing (i.e., someone who is not me). The model shown in these images is a bit heavy (> 16.5 MB) - without textures.

Nice! Are your textures procedural or somehow "handmade"?
I took the source images from the Space Engine program. I suppose they're procedural. I'm close to posting four different textures.

These days I was remebering how I deorbited and landed many years ago. Finally I did it even at night and without joystick. Using BaseSyncMFD with AeroBrakeMFD seems to be the very simple solution:

Although I doubt that AoA=-1.65 degrees during burning in atmosphere is right, but at least it doesn't require any roll inclinations during descending. In a couple of deorbit tutorials I saw that DG descends on its side (90 degrees of roll), so I was very confused with it like some unnatural.

Thats fine. Roll only changes the direction of the lift vector, but AoA changes which parts of your spacecraft get most of the heating. Some reentries even require you to reenter upside down, so you don't skip out of the atmosphere too early or at all. Thus flying S-turns (because of the bank angle) really saves your day. Even capsules roll.

Doesn't matter so much which side of the spacecraft faces earth. The atmospheric resistance comes from the direction of its velocity vector, not "down", so ultimately it only matters at what angle your heatshield is aligned to that, not what orieantation it has to the earths surface.
