What's with all the colors on the CSM?

Same thing that was up with my lunar lander a few month back.

In all seriousness though, It's a personal color-code that I use to keep track of the mesh groups that are still "in progress". For me, adding textures or asigning a proper color to a mesh group is basically the final step that takes it from WIP to complete.

I don't like messing with the geometry, once I have the UV maps in place.

Part way through my TLI burn, I ducked outside to find this shot waiting for me. I kept it after I successfully arrived in orbit around the Moon for the first time, thanks to Tex and his outstanding tutorials for TransX.

Caught this nice shot as I undocked to begin building my station in lunar orbit. With a DG-IV. :D

Earth 360

A while back I created a scenario with 360 ships in orbit around Earth. All the orbits are identical except the inclination, where each ship has 1° difference to the previous one. Today, I reloaded the scenario and I turned on Artlav's videnie to take a look at all the orbits.

As I let the simulation run at time-warp, with all the perturbations checked in the launchpad, some kind of structure began to appear at the point where the all the orbits intersected.

I let it run at x1000 and it looked like as if the ships were weaving a gigantic pillow with each pass.

It kept growing and growing in a mesmerizing way.

I stopped the scenario at this point.

I rerun it and switched the camera over to the night-side. It was even more beautiful.

I don't know if it damages the screen, but it's one heck of a screensaver.

You can get the file from the attachment on this post. Unzip in your Orbiter directory and run the "360 ships" scenario. Don't forget Artlav's [ame="http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4864"]Videnie orbit drawing 1.0 [/ame]

Amazing! Space Shuttle Enterprise over the northern United States / Southern Canada. Gotta love D3D9.

Awesome! :) Can you tell is a bit more about what we're seeing? What are the improvements that allow for the new look?

Well, I'm working on a new planet render engine, and took the opportunity to update the light map using a new higher-res map from NASA Earth Observatory.

Unfortunately, like all such maps I've come across, it's still severely overexposed to make it look pretty, which means no detail in the bright areas. I used a sharpening filter to add some fake detail, but it's still not ideal.
