I Just got orbiter 2010 on my HP windows 7 laptop a week ago and after fiddling with it for a while I got kinda bored of the only four space craft they allow you to use. I got two addons that didn't show up in the orbiter 2010 scenarios tab. So is there some program I need to make addons go from downloads to orbiter 2010? I also want to get new ships like serenity from firefly, a BSG colonial viper, a BSG colonial raptor, the Galactica herself, A mercury era spacecraft, an Apollo era Saturn V with detachable stages, command/service module & LEM & a Soyuz TMA spacecraft with launch vehicle stages including ISS crew missions. All these vehicles should coincide with the physics of orbiter 2010 (RCS maneuvers atmospheric reentry etc) so I imagine they exist somewhere. Can someone help me out? I would like a link to all these addons and a program that makes it possible to send addons easily directly to orbiter 2010.

Hi and welcome stealthstar!

What kind of addons did you download?
Does the addon has a scenario file? (Folder Scenarios and then somescenario.scn)

If it's a vessel (=spaceship), then you need to load a scenario file (.scn) where the vessel is used in by doubleclicking it in the Orbiter Launchpad (The start dialog which is opening after starting the orbiter.exe).

Alternatly, you can activate the "ScnEditor" in the Plugin tab of the "Orbiter launch pad" . After, if you are inside the simulation, you can press ctrl+F4 and select the scenario editor, there you can add vessels in the running simulation.
After the vessel has been added, you can press "F3" and select the vessel you want to go inside.
If it's another kind of addon, you maybe have to activate the plugin in the plugin-tab in the orbiter launchpad first.

If that does not help please post which addon(s) you have downloaded.

If the problem is regarding a special plugin, I propose to you to use the "Addon Support & Bugs" - board for the next time ;-).

Bored after just 7 days? :) So you've already mastered rendezvous and docking with the ISS? You've gone to the moon and back? You've launched the Space Shuttle and learned reentry? You've gone to Mars? You've visited the moons of Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune? You know how to do slingshots?

...an Apollo era Saturn V with detachable stages, command/service module & LEM...

AMSO

Another Apollo Project

...& a Soyuz...

Pretty much. I used the time warp to skip most of the long journeys. plus I got allot of time on my hands so I figured, what the hell? I took about a day for each challenge/scenario. not that I'm board with the scenarios I just want more ships & scenarios.

I meant that as a joke. I really just want to get more ships making it more interesting than it already is.

Ha! you make me smile, With all that cool stuff you guys make i spend just as much time getting stuff to work... reading endless Docs, txt readme, and this great forum but that can be fun too! Thanks again

Don't forget the Space 1999 addons, for Gattispilot and BenSisko. They also put together an Oblivion package.

And of course, Worlds of 2001
and Mars design reference mission.

So I got the addons I wanted (most of them anyway) but they don't show up in orbiter 2010 scenarios. They just end up in downloads and I cant run them in orbiter. Isn't there some program that allows addons to be transferred from the file to the game like orbiter sound 4.0? that's a separate program but it works directly with orbiter 2010.

Did you not unzip them to your Orbiter directory? I still run XP
Works for me most of the time, sometimes i have to do it manually for .Rar files though but the developers are very good at having the files in the proper places. ie. If a file is in a mesh folder it should be sent to the corresponding folder in Orbiter called mesh. Or A file in a folder called vessels should be sent to config/vessels and so on.
But reading the documentation is the best place to start.(They must spend a lot of time on that in itself), Its time well spent reading it.

If i,m giving bad advice, PLEASE correct me i'm still very new myself..

So I found out how to install my addons. I was able to get the Orion CEV capsule & viper MK2 from BSG. But the problem I'm having now is all files related to addons get downloaded as an adobe PDF! Its annoying because I can't open the files and transfer them to orbiter 2010. Anyone know a fix for this problem? Before the adobe problem I was using the standard Microsoft windows 7 file viewing program which allowed me to view all texture files scenario files etc. and move them to orbiter 2010 file location. This started after I tried to get the Soyuz TMA addon, it ended up opening as an adobe PDF preventing me from moving anything from downloads to orbiter. Maybe I hit something I shouldn't have when trying to open the files before.

Fixed the whole adobe problem. I just ended up uninstalling adobe reader (I hardly use it anyway) But I do get an error on one of the addons when I try to load it, specifically the oblivion bubble ship scenarios. but every other addon seems to work OK now after importing it to the orbiter file location. I do have a small annoying problem with the Orion CEV addon. I try to jettison the service module (for reentry) but it displays a text saying jettison SM continue? and gives me no option to continue the SM separation from the crew module. It does the same thing when I try to deploy the solar panels on the Orion.

Regarding the Orion "problems", from the manual:

Some critical key commands require confirmation with 'Return' or 'Esc' to cancel. In this case message is displayed at the left hand side of the HUD when in cockpit mode.

Can you post the orbiter.log file?
