NASA's new on-line 3D game Moonbase Alpha is on the doorstep.

See the trailer here: www.nasa.gov/moonbasealpha

And to top it off, it will be out on Tuesday  (No, really! I am not kidding)

Cheers!

I've been excited for this for a while. I want to point out that this is different from Astronaut:Moon, Mars & Beyond

The long-running joke about Orbiter 2007 being released in 2010, Tuesday, then the release date for Orbiter 09/2010 being 'next Tuesday'. Then martin goes and releases 2010 in may... On a Tuesday.

It's also a Star Trek reference. Watch the film "Generations".

Again, as long as it draws public interest to spaceflight, it's a good thing ;)

Doubt it will. My guess is that it'll fail miserably. MMOs that don't have combat as a primary mechanic aren't particularly popular to begin with, and one which is so overtly educational as this is bound to not draw much interest if for no other reason than that.

Moonbase Alpha? Hm. Hope they don't have any nuclear waste on the Moon in the game or it's gonna be one wild ride.
With bellbottoms.
That's exactly what I was thinking...

Yes, sadly and confusingly, people are conditioned to hate education, particularly math and physics. It's become 'stupid.'

Least funny antithesis EVER.

Yes, it's both tragic and sad because this has the potential to be totally awesome.

Oh yes, I'll definitely look into it.
I just know Orbiter-Forum could make the best guild ever in this.

Who's with me?? :)

You might be joking, but I think that is an excellent idea. I only watched the trailer, so I don't know how many max can go into one team or if there will be "guilds" and such, but I'd love to know I was teaming up with other space enthusiasts while playing.

I'll definitely be trying this out Tuesday night (after 11:00 Eastern USA time). I'll post my handle here when I get in (probably Mandella or some variant)....

I'm totally there :)

Also, look into NASA's "Astronaut: Moon, Mars and beyond". This also has the potential to be epic.

.... yeah right. That game is on the Internet for ages. It has nothing to do with NASA's game.
