Full Earthrise in HD

Some full HD stills can be found here (also earthrise/earthset):

Also DVD quality versions of the rise and set can be found here (nice, but no HD versions).

They are 1920x1080, but does anyone know if there is a better quality and/or higher resolution (visible spectrum) still camera aboard?

regards,
mcduck

Yeah, they have the multiple imager camera. It produces much higher resolution images in the visible wavelengths.
They also carry a terrain imaging camera which should have even higher resolution. Not sure if that is visible though.

Wow, awesome images! I haven't looked at the animation yet. If we get this with SELENE, just think what we are going to get once LRO arrives.

Nice image sequence.

We sure are spoilt for astro-imagery lately, aren't we? Here is one of my favourites from SELENE:

Astronaut photo from Apollo 15 site:

The same view constructed from the SELENE Terrain Camera data:

Some fantastic images on show here, I never thought the old Apollo shots quite did the earthrise justice, because the colours just didn't look right. That one though...yeahp, that one looks right. The colour against the perfect black, a sight to behold.

On a related note to the previous photo though (old lunar photo and cg version), have there ever been any pictures of lunar hardware on the surface, taken from orbit? Recently we've had one of the mars rovers photo'd on the edge of a crater, and that was through atmosphere and I assume they aren't quite as large as the descent stage of the LEM, so have any been taken? Will they be? Can they be?
