And with a less crosswind, I almost nailed the landing. I still need to find out how to set an airbase as L1 or L2 in the navigation, right now it displays me the waypoint as B6 (or just a regular waypoint).

Finishing a small low-level flight exercise.....

...with a very good computer-guided standard landing, though for the wrong runway heading. Do you notice the Heading Alignment Cylinder (HAC) on the center screeen?

Still left to improve:
  • Be gentler on the stick on take off and after touchdown for aerobraking
  • Find a better button assignment on the gamepad
  • Find out how to set a runway heading preference
  • Find out how DCS interprets the label for the waypoint for inclusion in the kneepad
  • Use the other stick on the gamepad for radar or for RB-05 missile control?
  • Install more Swedish assets
  • Create a naval mission

Using a lazy day of just me and my flu for crafting something more challenging. Time frame late 1983, trying to add some good radar fixes for such long distance navigation. Most of the mission is at 240m (~750 ft). Sadly, even the currenthill pack for Sweden lacks some material of that period, but its already much better than Vanilla DCS. The S-200 site is where a real one was located, you can still see the remains on aerial photography. The rough estimate for the TOT works well enough. The Swedish Navy is pretty much absent in that time frame, so lots of ocean patrol jobs for the Viggen. If the second full run works out, I'll add a lot more shipping in the area and begin with scripting more advanced behavior. And no, you shouldn't attempt attacking something bigger than a Krivak with RB 04 missiles with their ~20 km range. Anything that mounts a SA-N-1 is a serious threat until you get the early RBS 15.

EDIT: Maybe 8:35 (roughly 30 minutes after take-off) is a bit too early for a TOT, but I sank the ship on time, even as the navigation system complained about me being too slow at 900 km/h... gamepad assignments are also good now, taking radar fixes and correcting the target coordinates on radar works flawless. Now lets give the mission a bit more scenery

Now how does that look like?

The mission slowly comes together, the context of the mission is already written. The mission itself is a bit too easy right now, despite a lot of EW in the region, after I added all known SAM sites of the period along the coast. I am still a bit undecided on how much stress I want. The mission clearly needs some surprises and a lot more to worry about. But that will come with the scripting. Right now, its just a good navigation exercise and a lot of opportunities to play with the CK37 computer.

ok one question.
you got money for numerous modules (better ones goes as high as 70-something euros!?) but not for some average joystick?
(Thrustmaster T.16000M will do. hell even Logitech Extreme 3D Pro) How much you're into this game? or simulator I should say
funny, cause it's literally opposed with me - I got nice joystick (actually two, nice working combo) but not single module for now 🙂
(waiting for some price drop, eyeing first on Flaming cliffs 2024, then F-14, then FA-18...)

Simple. I have a notebook with too few USB ports to support my Thrustmaster HOTAS + Rudder pedals. And spending 100 € for DCS over the last 8 years isn't as bad, just use the sales properly. Most modules I ordered during my more active period. In the last years, I just followed the latest developments and spent more time in DCS learning how to script better missions. And a gamepad fits easier into a backpack if you are travelling.

Since mobility isn't as critical now, I could switch to a PC now. But those are a much bigger hole in bank account currently (thank you AI hype), compared to what I invested into keeping the notebook running (180 € over the last 5 years). And since the future doesn't look as bright here, I am a bit more reluctant with my investments.

Just stay away from children because these really make you poor. :ROFLMAO:

For those who are interested, currenthill just updated its Russian assets module to version 2.0.0, it now containing lots of old Soviet army gear badly missing in DCS.

Milsim addons are amazing (US version is practically a must!), not to mention also free but question is do all the mods for this game have to go straight to the C DRIVE !?? 🤬
I already once increased the size of my SSD C drive with EaseUS but with game... omg... 👺

You can move your complete "Saved Games" directory to a new location (you find the action in the properties, inside the path tab, of that special folder), if that helps you. Also you can move the full user/home directory to a new location, but that is a different kind of escalation.

thank you
I'll test it out
although have to admit that I didn't get that into brackets part

Maybe a video-to-brain is needed....

It did work ! thank you Urwumpe (y)you just save my C drive
shame I already install all the available community planes for DCS 😁

Well, I would rather want to save some capacity for the 1980s Germany map.... :D (This map, the CH Germany pack and the "Luftverteidigungsdiesel" are made for each other)

Can somebody successfully download the Russian asset pack from CurrentHill? Its my fifth attempt now from the third mirror I tried and if I can download at all, the download fails at around 95%.

EDIT: And again, two attempts failed. All 2 minutes before the download was supposed to end at 18 GB, roughly one hour after the download started. And no, the small C: drive still has 64 GB free. This isn't the problem.

EDIT²: It's reproducable. After exactly 60 minutes (+/- my reflexes) the download fails. So its an intentional behavior on Googles side. Since I can't download faster than 5 MB/s from Google, its impossible.... at least until it switches to a different file hoster.

EDIT³: The cheat worked - selecting multiple files and downloading these together works without a countdown in the background. Now I got the missing 50 seconds to download this. Ignoring AI is great!

hey urwumpe, I'm about to do some shopping here
little bit discount is on the clock, as you may see
I'm literally filling my Cart right now, so here's what I'm thinking - won't go for F-14 cause discount on (best plane in human history) that thing is only 25%
I was thinking go for FA-18, that's 50% off.
also a Super carrier (Su-33 and russian carrier goes with that)
and now I was thinking... a complete Flaming Cliffs 2024 or just planes I prefer (and that's almost them all 😁 )
so here's a quick calculation:

DCS: F/A-18C
DCS: Supercarrier
DCS: F-15C Flaming Cliffs
DCS: A-10A Flaming Cliffs
DCS: MiG-29 Flaming Cliffs
F-86F FC
F-5E FC
MiG-15 FC
(guess I already own Su-25 huh? and Su-33 as I said already comes with SC)
= 113,59€ 🥶

and the other one:
DCS: F/A-18C
DCS: Supercarrier
DCS: Flaming Cliffs 2024
= 128,90€ 😒

so, was it worth it ? like 15 euros saving ? and skipping on Su-27 and J-11 (and MiG-29S😁 edit: that probably comes along with regular 29)

is there something/anything that comes with Flaming cliffs that I won't get buying separate modules ? (planes for those not familiar with DCS language)

F/A-18 and Supercarrier is clearly a good combination. The F/A-18 is still a more advanced plane with an advanced FCS, so you are more feeling like a computer jockey than a fighter pilot in it.

Also, take in account that FC3 is often a requirement for many user-made planes. So, having the full pack really has some advantages, if you later want to save money.

Also, among the cheaper modules for DCS are also campaigns, which might make the plane you choose more fun in single player.
