So after a long time I managed to take up DCS again (with upgraded PC, woohoo!), this time with the instant-action MiG-21 intercept mission.

Take-off, of course with a very light tail-strike during rotation:

After this I high-tailed it back to base due to low fuel and a desire not to have a discussion with two enemy F-16s.

 Agreed. That's some of the best fun you can have with the DCS MiG-21; what the type was originally made for. Pure, single minded interception, with no faffing about.

Incidentally, the L-39 Albatross is on the way. Yeah, another armed trainer, I know (sigh), but it will be good for some online aerobatics formation team! ;)

And with it comes dual-cockpit functionality! I'm more interested in the new DX11 graphics engine coming with DCS 1.5 (essentially DCS 2.0 without the Nevada Test and Training Range), however.

EDIT:
And a Mig-21 aerobatic team would be even more "interesting"!

BTW, on the DCS front; Operation Blue Flag.

Quite novel, a 24/7 persistent campaign where the object is to capture all bases and FARPs. In essence, a war for territory. I participated in its inauguration, flying on odd days with one of the blue side squadrons on SEAD/CAS/Strike missions with the SU-25T, and a couple of troop transport taskings for base capture with the UH-1. It was supposed to be up for a month, but blue side won in 8 days. It is up again as a rematch right now. It was a new angle on what can be done with DCS, and was fun through and through.

;)

These vids are old.. but still good :)... another one for fun..

This Online one is interestingly 'funny'...

This guy forgot he was on my side and kept on trying to shoot me down.. all the while, he had the opposition behind him trying to shoot him down.. and he thought that person was a friend..

So.. there I was, no comms, no time to type on the keyboard... cursing blue murder.. and dodging like mad, keeping close so that he might 'wake up'.. He eventually did but was shot down, and the remaining two of us lost sight of each other... so I went home.
good fun..

The M2000C is a multi-role, French-designed, 4th generation fighter. It was designed in the 1970s as a lightweight fighter and in excess of 600 M2000C aircraft have been built. The M2000C is a single-engine fighter will a low-set delta wing with no horizontal tail. It has excellent manoeuvrability given its relaxed stability and fly-by-wire flight control system. The M2000C also includes a multi-mode RDI radar that is capable tracking and engaging targets at beyond visual ranges. In addition to engaging other aircraft with cannon and missiles, the M2000C can also engage ground targets with cannon, rockets and bombs. The M2000C is a perfect fit for the battlefields of DCS World!

We now bring an exacting simulation the M2000C to DCS World. The M2000C is highly optimized to work within DCS World and takes advantage of the Digital Combat environment that only Eagle Dynamics can offer.

It is a breath of fresh air on DCS, after a series of pretty, but also pretty useless trainers that came out after the last "true warrior" add-on of the MiG-15. I skipped them, but I will get this one. I like the Mirage.

And out it is!

Heh! Heh! You're quick!

The visibility of other aircraft from the cockpit is certainly improved. Nice update, the little I have played of it so far. May not bother fighter jocks much, but is a boost for the mud movers who don't have radar/IRST. And for the MiG 15 / F-86 fights.

Heh, I yet have to try it out! :)

Meanwhile, here's the hotfix for those wishing to fly the MiG-21 in DCS 1.5: Link to ED Forums thread.

I did try it out: :hailprobe:

However, ambient occlusion is a very taxying effect, so turn it off if you are having low FPS.

I'm also hearing that the depth of field setting is causing some frame-rate hits for some, but it is not affecting my particular rig, thankfully. It is very cool. Also, the cluster bomb detonation lag seems to have been fixed completely, but again, can't say if it still might be present on lower end machines...

Out of curiosity, what video card do you have?

---------- Post added at 17:26 ---------- Previous post was at 16:42 ----------

From what I've read, the two-cockpit feature of the L-39 is already working, as a surprise feature for this release! :)

EVGA GTX 970 4GB

Good to know. I have the same card, haven't loaded DCS on my new righ though. Guess it's about time I get back in the game.

L-39 is now available on Steam:
