Idea Delta Glider V Ideas?

Any ideas for a DGV? Some of mine:

- A second airlock in the cargo bay for EVAs.
- A second dock in the cargo bay?
- Two scramjets
- An arm in the cargo bay, like the one in a space shuttle.

I'm a former big DGIV fan. DGV should have no cargo bay, second dock where the cargo bay is. It should have a less clunky auto re-entry sequence. It also should be a bit more responsive to banks, etc during re-entry.

I love the areas for the turbo-packs. Keep that! How about a grasp-able area near the entry for the ummu. It'd be cool to be able to look into the airlock.

Also, any possibility of re-designing the interior of the air lock? It's lacking

Also, it'd be great to see the interior of the ship too.

(Basically make it an XR-1, with a second hatch and a turbo-pack hatch.)

I honestly can't think of a thing for it. It's pretty darn near perfection. Maybe a little more advanced life support system. What I really think is the greatest thing about it is the atmospheric auto-pilot. I can only dream of someone making an auto-pilot MFD of it's quality.

I saw screenshots of Symphony Base, it looks fabulous. I really do hope Dan has plans to release it at some point, I'd love to use it.

Hmm maybe something like the XR vessels have... where excess wing load can damage the wings... then they might not survive reentry or might fail. It'd be cool if you could see the wings deteriorate.

I would agree that it would be hard to put payloads in with an airlock, and I have thought quite a bit about that issue. I would think that there would just be some clamps in the bottom for payload OR docking (no bay docking unless you eject payload!) and the airlock in the side. The wing damage idea is good too.

Oh yah, maybe make it so that you could open the radiator while the cargo bay is open?

^^ That's physically impossible. The radiator doesn't have enough room to open when the bay is open.

I was kind of hoping that it could be possible to "eject" the payload. That way, you could jettison the payload quickly without slowing down in an atmosphere.

Instead of a payload bay, install a Temple in which the astronauts can worship the almighty Probe.

But in all seriousness, I can't think of many suggestions. This is a very nice ship.

In my ideal world, I'd like:

• A grapple arm in the payload bay. It would help in retrieving satellites
• Faster ejection. When I always forget to turn hyd pressure back on, by the time I realise its almost too late to eject.
• A better docking autopilot - most of the time I end up doing it myself and often the autopilot crashes through the things you're trying to dock with. Good thing there is no collision detection!
• A better glider. Without engines, the DG-IV isn't that good at gliding I don't think.
• Finally, although I don't think it will happen and the 2D panel is already awesome, a VC would be nice. Nothing beats fiddling with switches then looking out the window to see the sunrise for the tenth time in one day!

It would be much more realistic if the ejection seats were on a seperate hydraulic system (as in, no need for hydraulic pressure to be on). I also agree on the gliding thing. It isn't very realistic, and I often land with engines at full because of lack of speed. It's like the flight simulator in Google Earth, not enough lift! The virtual cockpit request has appeared most frequently. I think it is the addon most badly needed.

Another double post to be merged! The radiator could be moved down or the door could open in the other direction. But another thing is, when you accelerate at 1.8 Gs while changing orbit, the flimsy-looking radiator doesn't just rip off. I think it should.

Another thing I remembered, although fairly minor. When you dock with another spacecraft, it often says the crew are experiencing about 0.9G's.Maybe that could be fixed.

There wouldn't be any situation where you would need to eject when the HYD PRES would be off. You wouldn't eject on orbit or during re-entry. You would only need to eject during relatively low airspeed/altitude situations- wherein at all times the HYD PRES should be on.

Madness! The DGIV is a superb glider- dead stick landings are a doddle if you know how to do them. Empty, (with full NU trim and back stick pressure) the DG will stall at about 70m/s! Considering you should be gliding on final at about 170-180m/s, the DGIV has plenty of lift (and is really only designed) for making unpowered landings.

Chances are you're trying to come in shallow with a high AOA, like a powered commercial jet- whereas a glider's approach has to be much more aggressive. So as to not lose any airspeed on final approach, zero degree angles of attack are needed, usually with the nose pointing about 20 deg below the horizon.

But another thing is, when you accelerate at 1.8 Gs while changing orbit, the flimsy-looking radiator doesn't just rip off. I think it should.

Or, realistically, you shouldn't be making 1.8g orbit adjustments- and if for any reason you are, you should retract the radiator, antenna etc. In the DGIV, I use the RCS translation thrusters for orbit adjustments, not the main engines (which I treat like SSMEs and only use for orbit insertion).

1. Check out Kulch's URMS. It can be placed anywhere.
2. I didn't know hyd pres was connected to ejection... it works for me whether hyd is on or not.
3. The DGIV has too many autopilots already...
4. It's relatively easy to glide with it
5. Dan already stated he will not make a VC.

A static VC is definitely possible, because a model has already been made.

The only thing is to get it implemented.
Personally, I think a static VC is better than no VC at all.
