Of course it does. You have used values 0.1 to 0.4 in your plots when the proper range is 1.5 to 5.0. It's not the same equation as in the Beta 4.

Sorry, I think I've been looking at the equations backwards and upside-down. It makes more sense now.

It's already implemented and having the ability to do that doesn't hurt, should we remove it because you don't like it.

It was only a suggestion; I didn't know it was already implemented.
 
After about 240 sim seconds, this happens. But not all the time.

Saturn has green rings

I have a problem with Saturns rings, so i tried a clean minimal install of Orbiter and still have the problem, I have copied the log below and posted a picture of the problem. I am using onboard radeon x1200 graphics on windows 7, they say theres no official win7 drivers for these graphics so im forced to use vista drivers, its the first time ive had any graphics problems in games.

Ive tried various driver version, and suspect the graphics to be the problem, im hoping there might be a cfg that can be adjusted.

Try using the inline client. Has it the same effects ?

It looks like D3D9 cannot set the "shaders" for the rings. Also it detects that your hardware cannot support more than 2 textures. On what are you running ?

Not quite so, the hardware has only limited support for textures that are not to a power of 2 pixels. Sounds like a rather old rack, which would understandably lead to shader trouble. Still, no full support for D3D9... The thing is either ancient, or has incorrect drivers installed.

By looking at shaders in D3D9Client20 (SM2.0) directory, there is no RingTech2 technique implemented.

Delete or move to a backup location: "Textures/Saturn_ring_2048.dds", "Textures/Saturn_ring_4096.dds", "Textures/Saturn_ring_8192.dds". This will disable rendering of the new high resolution rings, and will use Orbiter's default (in RingTech, which is present in SM2.0 version of shaders).


Also, merged with D3D9Client thread, because this issue is present only for the client.

So yeah, as D3D9 Saturn rings are 1x2048, 4096 or 8192, thay can cause problems. Let's hope it works ;)

All of these textures have perfectly power of 2 dimensions, and this isn't the 'limited non-power of 2' issue of these textures.

It seems like normal maps and local lights doesn't like each other. Note that the FWD skirts on the SRBs are darker than the rest. It's not a material issue as the issue goes away when the normal map texture is renamed/removed.

I just wanted to take a moment to give thanks for employing Earthglow in the latest releases here; this is just another 'ambience' effect that really adds to the immersion and realism. :)

OK some error reports on the R9 version of D3D9:

- I have quite a few crashes of Orbiter in D3D9 since at least the R7 version. These crashes seems to come randomly with all sorts of add-ons being run. This happens when I press the start button to start a scenario, but instead of going full screen (as I selected) the desktop is still shown, except for a black pixel point on my laptop screen's upper left hand corner. I had to terminate the process in order to get back to the desktop, and checking my computer's logs shows them as CTDs.

D3D9Client R10 RC1

Here is RC1

- XR2 skin related CTD should be fixed.
- Saturn rings related issues should be fixed.
- Normal map & local light sources issue should be fixed.
- Earth "glow" color is shifted towards white.
- Some improvements are made into the material editor.

Fresnel reflection model has changed therefore existing configurations won't work without editing the material setup from the editor. However, there should be no need to delete existing configuration files.

Some documentation is written in /Doc/D3D9Reflections.pdf

What kind of graphics card configuration you have ?
The log says that "nVidia API Initialized" yet still it reads "Intel HD graphics". Could it be nVidia API problem. Is there a Stereo Mode configuration available in R7 ?

I can't remember when did this problem surfaced, but it's probably at least 2-3 months old so it must be from at least the days when I was running the R7 version, maybe even earlier.

My laptop has a duo-graphics card feature (nVidia Optimus) that switches between the dedicated GPU (nVidia GeForce GT 640M LE) and the motherboard GPU (Intel HD graphics 4000 series) depending on the power usage. In all cases I was running the program with the dedicated GPU.
 
It looks like the versions of D3D9Client.fx and D3D9Client.dll do not match. I can't reproduce the problem. Could you reinstall and make sure all that all existing files are replaced.
That was the problem. D3D9Client.dll was of the previous version and reinstallation fixed it right up.

I can confirm that the issue with normal maps and local lights have been resolved.
