New Release D3D9Client Development

I can reproduce that one and it looks pretty much like the DeltaGliderIV CTD. The D3D9Clinet is calling Orbiter's RegisterVisObject() function which will never return. The Orbiter will call Vessel's clbkVisualCreated() callback function form RegisterVisObject(). The CTD will occur in somewhere in the Vessel-Orbiter interaction. The Client isn't the one to blame.

But why does it work with regular Orbiter graphics?

Martin could give a better answer but when the Orbiter is running with a graphics client, the Orbiter will "behave" differently in some matters. I belive Martin can fix the CTD but I have no idea when that's going to happen.

Very nice, now this client is ready for use as main graphics client.

Looking at distant body dots, they seem a bit too bright, and white. Does the client takes in to account the body's albedo?

No, I didn't even though of that. Taking it in account would be a good idea, Thanks. But it looks like the API doesn't have a function to acquire an albedo for a planet.

I just noticed, that the dx9 client don't care about the ambient lightning set in the visual options, so the dark side is not so dark :)
 
I have noticed this also, changing the ambient lighting value doesn't change anything. Ambient lighting stays the same.
 
Is there anything you can do to boost FPS with local light sources? They seem to really kill FPS in recent D3D9Client versions.

In recent versions ? So, you mean that the performance has decreased in that matter compared to older version, is that right ? What kind of numbers are we talking about ? I haven't done any changes in the local light sources. But, the implementation of local light sources is somewhat inefficient, so, there is a lot that can be done. At first, I would need a good scenario where to test it, any recommendations ?

Yes. It is down from around 50 FPS to around 15 FPS. I don't really have any default scenarios, just this SSU scenario:

Yes. It is down from around 50 FPS to around 15 FPS. I don't really have any default scenarios, just this SSU scenario:

Could you remove all D3D9Client related files from the installation and reinstall RC14. RC14 comes only with one DLL, there is no SL version. I haven't been able to reproduce the framerate impact.

Here is a high resolution ISS lighted with 6 local light sources. When the local light sources are disabled the framerate will change from 166 to 185.

Tried reinstalling RC14 with everything deleted, no joy. Still get the FPS impact. Maybe I need a graphics card?

If you got 50fps with RC10 and now 15fps with RC14 then something must be badly wrong. Are you still getting 50fps with RC10 (local light sources enabled) ?

Don't have it unfortunately so I can't test it.
 
Ok, Here it is.

BTW, 8600GT is pretty good, so, it shouldn't be a problem.

Seems like I'm getting the same FPS in RC10. I'm getting 50 FPS in daylight and around 15 FPS during nighttime, even with local light sources off.
