Most of my family already got business travel passes in case of intra-german travel bans. And who did not get one yet... right.

42,288 official cases now at midnight in Germany, a plus of 5780. But isn't that dire - 428 new cases had been from Hamburg alone because the numbers of yesterday did not arrive at the RKI because of technical issues, so its now 428 new cases for Hamburg over two days that got accounted today. 253 official deaths to COVID-19 now.

This night US numbers passed Italy and China. Really bad news, but foreseeable.
Testing has been neglected for too long. Let's hope they get it under control!

POTUS, the expert in virology and other disciplines, really f:censored:d it up by downplaying the danger

Luckily, there is the facial expression of Fauci, that says more in a fraction of a second than a million tweets by Donald Trump....

This one, Urwumpe?
First a suppressed grin, then the facepalm

I wonder if you'd see that reaction on many other countries, with the president right there... Thinking about the chinese doctor that first warned about the virus...

The reaction of Chinese government was the worst of all. They even punished the doctors for spreading false information. Public authorities there waited until after New Year's celebrations until they understood the danger.
But no other President / Prime Minister / Chancellor was bragging so loudly about being an expert as Trump did.

Boris Johnson was tested positive on SARS-CoV-2.

It's less overhead on the bureaucracy, and you get to keep such an essential right as "my boss cannot just kick me out from one day to the other because of whatever".

I'm sorry, I just can't see this as a right, let alone an essential one, and not for lack of time spent unemployed and broke, nor for having been especially rich at any point in my life, either.

Also, because of no minimum wage apparently many people are having trouble *feeding their kids* because they had to rely on the schools doing that. That gives the term "working poor" a whole new definition. I'm sorry, but your country is broken.

There is in fact a minimum wage here. Some might consider it inadequate, but the problem with minimum wages is that they tend to prevent teens from entering the job market, which delays them gaining the experience to do higher paying work. When they become adults, they thus end up with lower salaries, and among disadvantaged groups, that effect hits especially hard.

Nice theory, but your hypothesis has the implicit assumption: Your bosses are too stupid to plan further than into next week. Could of course be a true assumption, but no good one for the economy.

The vocalist of Rammstein, Till Lindemann, is in intensive care because of COVID-19, he even had life-threatening pneumonia, but he is slowly recovering. No good news for his lung capacity though.

He showed the first symptoms after returning to Berlin from a solo show in Moscow.

Media are looking up the last Prime Minister to die in office.
Also, when he last met with Prince Charles who has been tested positive too.

Supermarket staff protocol confusion (24th March).....

Coronavirus: M&S workers say they have been ordered to remove face masks. Shop floor staff told protective gear could cause 'panic' among customers

....meanwhile....

Iceland to issue store staff with face masks. The retailer is also adding clear screens at checkouts and floor markings to aid social distancing.

On brighter note, I have managed to acquire the necessary ingredients for a decent cup of tea....civilisation continues :)

All the best,
Brian

I don't see how that is a thing. What is the link there?

The link is that if you have no special rules for underaged workers, you have to pay them minimum wage, which means you could as well get somebody with experience for that money.

That's what Switzerland has apprenticeships for. Apart from basic quality assurance in the labour market, of course.

I'm sorry, I just can't see this as a right, let alone an essential one, and not for lack of time spent unemployed and broke, nor for having been especially rich at any point in my life, either.

It is not an essential right that my boss can't tell me that I'll have no wage anymore from tomorrow, without any notice to go looking for a new job? Do you have a family?

It is also a two-sided sword. I could also just leave my employer in such a model. Except that, if I do, I probably face a huge contract fine, if I would be somewhat critical to his business.

In German law, this has been so strictly regulated, that it only applies to top managers, but I know that some employers tried to enforce the same contract clauses on regular workers that left for going to a competing company.

Almost every contract in Switzerland has that clause, and almost everybody knows it's not enforcable...

Not with at will employment in the US, which is the presumed default. An employee can simply leave in the middle of the day and never show up for work again, without notice, or even saying that he's quitting, and as long as he leaves any company property, like his badge, at his supervisor's desk or with the security guard at the front door, there are no legal consequences. If an employee that does such a thing is stupid enough to provide future employers with contact information for that job, the previous employer can give a bad review if a future employer calls to ask about his performance, but that's all.

I actually had one of my supervisors quit without notice once. He just e-mailed me one day saying that it was his last day at the company, and I assumed this was something that he'd already discussed with his supervisor (maybe even that he'd been fired). When I emailed her after the weekend asking where a report needed to be sent now that he was gone, she was completely taken by surprise.
