Project Amrstrong Lunar Base

Sorry I don't get this... this is not for radio astronomy it's for communications... I suppose you'd want a high data rate with Earth so a big dish makes sense... What's your point in pointing out that the Moon is tidally locked? Meaning that you could get away with a fixed dish? But then what if you need to communicate with a spacecraft somewhere else?
Sorry I don't get what your point is, can you explain?

Originally when I wrote that post with the Comms dish I also stated it was for duel use, the second use being radio astronomy. A couple minutes later Urwumpe pointed out (much to my embarrassment) that the moon is tidally locked. After I saw his post I edited my previous post, removing my statement about duel use and adding the post after Urwumpe's stating my embarrassment. Sorry for the confusion :tiphat:

Edit:
Also, comms with other spacecraft would be done through relay satellites with I assume would be present since at this stage in lunar development you would want a good comms infrastructure in lunar orbit.

Yes the pads are placed at ground level. For the smaller pads the idea is that you can taxi into one of the hangars or vice versa. Also there are facilities that will support vehicles so the user will be able to take ummu people from a structure into a vehicle, drive the vehicle to a ship and put them in the ship. :tiphat:
Sorry it took so long to get back to the thread. That is frakking awsome !

Just took the LER for a little joyride around the base. Looks excellent!

Thanks man! I spent quite a bit of time creating this and it is all worth it when I get comments like that.

I tried it and it's so cool. I like the crater mesh and how the base is in the crater.:tiphat:

I find it a bit silly, designating by law the name of something that not only hasn't been built, but they don't know how, when or if it will be built.

Sounds very much like a bikeshed. The House of Representatives Committee on Science and Technology's Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics probably doesn't know squat-douche about a moon base; but they can pick a name! And legislate it!

Kudos! This has found a place on my Orbiter install with the "must have" additions.

Is the large landing area really big enough for the arrow, it looks too small, but I think that's just me.

Love the doors and the hangars.

Yes it should be plenty of room for the Arrow. Dansteph has stated that the Arrow is 200m in length. Not having an Arrow yet to illustrate I've used the XR5. The XR5's wingspan according to it's documentation is 76.67m, so the following pic should give a good idea :)

...it really don't know that it is that big.

Sweat Jesus that's big.

Thanks for a great addon:thumbup:
I landed the Arrow there and it works great.

Had to hover above the pad and rotate to get the right angle.
First use autoland from less than 30k away. Then when you get close cut autoland and use autohover and RCS Rotate/Translate to orientate it correctly and then when its nicely lined up click autoland and you get a perfect landing in that nice big landing pad! O yes, don't put your gear down too soon , cos it'll crash the wall:)! I got some repairs to make on the back 2 landing gear stands, he he:lol:

Just one question. is it possible to put another road linking the pad where the arrow stands to the other pads?
I colored it yellow where I thought it could go in this screenshot.
I also want to make those hangers breathable areas, I will try that later:)
Thanks again
Kevin

Thanks for the kind words Kev. :tiphat:

Ya, I have been planning to do an update for this add-on to better utilize UCGO and UMMU. Can't say it will be soon but it will be done. Also, I was thinking to make some regolith roads and not the paved looking ones.
