Been messing around with AMSO on a little project, and as a side thing I started working on trying to get some reentry scenarios closer to the historic. Thought I would post them here. The reentry scenarios use the skipout maneuver to make it to the historic splashdown coordinates instead of just a straight in trajectory. Entry interface occurs at the historic time.

Three Hours to Entry:

Code:
BEGIN_DESC
Apollo 11 is about 3 hours away from splashdown and 2 hours 38 minutes from jettisoning the Service Module. You are in the PTC. Jettison the Service Module at the historic time at GET 194:49:19 over southwestern Australia. Your inbound trajectory is stable with a good REA within the corridor, and a nominal VPA of 43 km.

***Recommend pitch +270.0 roll 0.0 yaw 0.0 as the attitude (inertial) at time of SM jett.

Historic splashdown at GET 195:18:35 or 16:50:35 UTC on July 24, 1969 at coordinates 13°19'N 169°09' W. Mid-Pacific Ocean southwest of the Hawaiian Islands.

Thirty Seconds to Entry Interface:

Code:
BEGIN_DESC
The Apollo 11 crew is about to return to Earth. The prime recovery ship (PRS), the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV-12) is waiting on station with President Nixon aboard. You are 30 seconds away from entry interface.

***It's possible to fly Columbia within a few kilometers or better of the historic splashdown coordinates, however there is a very real chance to mess up the skip flying up and away into too high a skipout and overshooting the splashpoint, so be on top of the skip transition, (or you can see how close you can get to Hawaii.) If you fly it right, the initial load will peak around 6.5 g's prior to the skip, then coming back down for the final descent the load will peak around 3-4 g's. After which you can fly the lift vector the small remaining distances. It's up to you...

Here's the complete set of 14 scenarios in the attachment:

View attachment A11 SCNs.zip

Included are two "base" CFG files for the Map MFD for targets to aim for. The coordinates are from the mission report.

***I forgot to fix the Command Module fuel level in the "Thirty Seconds to Entry Interface" scenario in the attachment, I fixed it in the above post. It should read PRPLEVEL 0:1.000000 instead of PRPLEVEL 0:0.812089 or you won't have enough to fly the entry.

Here's a playback demo of flying the skipout technique:
