I hope you have all done your emergency preparations well, this time it looks really like luck ran out for us.

That NASA simulation looks really bad for us, its almost a bullseye hit on Earth. Just a few hours left.

A really spooky event. And sadly too much cloud cover to see what will happen over my head.

So, in the worst case, we might get a major internet outage and some sever power problem over the next 12-24 hours. Remember that this is could be the kind of event why you should have some emergency supplies of food, water and important medications at home.

Don't worry, its just a natural event. It won't erase your MP3 or replace them all with Rick Astley. This happens only in horror movies.

Never were. Current report from spaceweather.com is that the CME strike on Earth was much weaker than expected.

Yeah, looks like the CME travelled further south as expected, missing Earth mostly. Only the L1 probes had been really hit, with DSCOVR having a few sensor glitches during the passage. Maybe the simulation model needs more refinement.

Huh, completely missed this. Glad it missed us, too...

I love how you'd expect to hear that sentence in a science-fiction movie, but not in RL :hailprobe:
Anyways, "Helloween" is the band. The holyday is still spelt "Halloween" ;)

A friend managed to take some weak red aurora pictures from Wolfsburg, so something must have happened. But yeah, not that much.

I think I like the band more. ?

There was some activity recorded on shortwave on the thursday before Halloween, when the X1 flare fired.
Flare X1?! I didn't know it had been as strong as class X. Now I saw the images on Helioviewer.org it appears that there were several active regions on the Sun. Thanks for the info.

Yeah, I was also mildly surprised. We are approaching solar maximum again, so we should get more such events. The last solar max, I had been able to receive a radio station from Madrid in Northern Germany with my cars radio, on 104.1 MHz. ?

You learn something every day. Didn't know that such days are "holydays" instead of holidays, either.
