Project Space Shuttle Vessel

Wow, just downloaded this add-on and from what I see in manual it is INCREDIBLE !
Works fine from the start - big thank you:)
Thanks!

The question is : when I will learn to fly this thing ?
Well, it goes into orbit pretty much on its own, and also the reentry and landing is automated, so you can start by just watching.

Just do it, there is no book from which you can learn this.

(Of course, you can look at NASAs collection of training and flight material. Anything labelled "Workbook" is especially helpful for beginners. But since not everything is implemented and you can't work with human crew members, its better to just go flying and see what is there, instead of learning what is missing. )

I realized that the most time "during the mission" Shuttle spends between VAB, rollout and 1 month on Pad39. As most payloads like IUS and many others (except SpaceLab type of payloads)are installed later from canister, I can simulate rollouts of most missions even classified ones, because during main payload wasn't there yet.
I am a bit obsessed now with rollouts, just paid attention they usually were made in early morning before sunrise and until pre-noon. Early stages of this process often were in darkness, I thought maybe MLP could be equipped with spotlight(s) (1,2?). I just attached BrianJ' s spotlight vessel to shuttle's attachment 26. MLP has only one attachment for shuttle (it seems).

There is not going to be any payload installation at the pad any time soon.... I ended up buying a big battle just to show the payloads there... 🤷‍♂️

As for lights, the forgotten SSV_XenonLights vessel has 2 modes: fixed or tracking the a target.
If the scenario parameter "PAN_TILT <pan> <tilt>" is present, it will be fixed in that direction. Without that parameter, it should search for the vehicle (max range 1km) and turn to it.
They would probably have 2 or 3 lights near the VAB, darkness for the most part, and then a few more at the pad.

Yes, I understand, I was only writing about payload installation in real life. There is no need for this in SSV.

Actually, having the xenon lights for the rollout was the exception not the rule.

Hi, the only thing annoying me in the cockpit is the looped sound of "washing machine"...any way to change it?

It's the fans circulating the air inside the crew module. It does seems a bit louder with XRSound... I think I'll have to invest some coding time in there.
Anyway, try deleting the file "Sound\_CustomVesselsSounds\SSV\Orbiter_AC.wav". If it CTDs, you could probably replace that file with one containing just silence.

While its silent in space, the spacecraft are actually pretty loud inside. Because there is only microgravity, the air has to be moved around by fans to ensure that O2 is circulated to the mouth of the astronauts and CO2 removed towards the scrubbers. On the ISS, the average sound level is 70 dB(A) (about the noise of a busy city road), and 58 dB(A) in the sleeping quarters (equivalent to a television 1m away)

Yes, thanks for the info. Maybe a longer loop would be nicer for ears - not so repetitive. I will try to make such a sound.

Nah, it's a volume thing, as it wasn't that much noticeable (at least for me) before. It will have to be sorted in the software, as I'm in no hurry to change more binary files.

Is somewhere an example of "SSV_XenonLights:SSV_XenonLights" in a scenario? I put standard entry, it appears, but are there any options?
I have:
SSV_XenonLights1:SSV_XenonLights
STATUS Landed Earth
POS -80.6481630 28.5854470
AFCMODE 7
NAVFREQ 0 0
END
Actually works OK.

The KSC night landing and STS-8 (night) landing scenarios should have them, in the fixed mode (as I explained some posts back).

I ripped the orbiter ac sound from this video of the immediate post-landing activities and subsequent tow to OPF-1 after STS-132:

So after payloadbay doors are opened, radiators and KU antenna deployed how to release the cargo? Where to start? Which checklist to read? I guess many ways with different missions, right?

Hi, is it possible to prepare a launch and randez-vous ISS at present day as I am able with default Atlantis? As I understand I need to use SSVMissionEditor for that.
What would the procedure be like?

Yes.

Oh boy... there is no "hole-in-one" procedure, and some iterations will be needed to end up with a mission that works.
First you need to setup a mission file, payloads, etc.
Then the hard part.
There are some big limitations currently: the current ascent guidance isn't smart enough to target an orbital plane, only an inclination, so ending up co-planar with the ISS depends only on launch time.
So you need the current orbital data for the ISS, figure out when its orbital plane passes the launch site, and that is your T0, plus or minus a few minutes.
The other missing part is the initial orbit parameters (MECO, OMS-1/2), that plays into the rendezvous plan, so you get to the ISS and do so with the appropriate conditions. I think the manual for FDO MFD has information on how to set that up.

As for now I copied STS126 mission and managed to add ISS_HD :) I am trying to check its position in Atlantis simple scenario and then copy the correct launch time to SSV mission. IDK if it will work...

Another question : is it possible to add this chatter from default Atlantis ? I really like the woman's voice :)
