We are going to watch it during the full moon swimming at the local public pool this evening. Its too hot to sleep early anyway for the kids.

We expect the cold front tomorrow night here, but it won't lower the temperatures much.

I have access to full lunar eclipse here in Asia!

But err..., it starts at 2:24 a.m., reaches maximum at 4:21 a.m., ends at 6:19 a.m. And I usually wake up an hour later... :lol:

It is cloudy here, so I am thinking whether staying up all night really worth it. :hmm:

Edit: Just saw the Moon! It is already red now! Looks huge!

Edit: Just saw the Moon! It is already red now! Looks huge!

The eclipse doesn't begin for another few hours, you probably just saw the Moon rising low on the horizon. When a lunar eclipse happens, the Moon will appear a deep, dark red.

Anyway, I just saw it this morning, 30 minutes after the totality. I can see Mars beside it. But, phone's view is a completely different story.

Had a nice evening in the public pool with my family watching both the blood moon and have a nice ISS fly-over right during the height of the eclipse.

Too low in the sky in central Finland (it's too bright at night to see anything but the Moon, but even the Moon was behind the trees) :-(

Well, one more month, and I can think of getting the telescope out again...

Thanks for the list! Especially the Mercury transit would be cool to see - though November weather here tends to be awful.

Astronomy conditions here tend to be peculiar - it's a lopsided season to begin with, pretty much nothing at all during the bright summers, but crystal-clear winter nights with plenty of deep sky potential. So high latitude that parts of the Zodiac can never be seen properly. I've got hills and trees on the low horizon, but pretty much zero light pollution (in fact, Aurora Borealis is sometimes the worst offender). So anything low in the sky requires observing through trees (which isn't so bad in winter with a 20 cm aperture as it might seem).
