You need a 'stinger' for the EVA guy.


Actually, for this particular mission I need to add the TPAD (Trunnion-Pin Attachment Device). You're thinking of STS-51A where the 'stinger' was first used.
 
Which mission had the crew attach the "fly swatter" mod to the RMS? The crew doing the EVA to attach their crew manual to the RMS would make a pretty cool (unusual) screen shot...

STS-51D. Malfunction of LEASAT-3 to activate post-deploy forced a contingency EVA by crew members Griggs and Hoffman to attach a make-shift "fly-swatter" tool to the RMS End Effector in an attempt to manually activate the satellite by snaring a activation lever on the satellite. No success.

LEASAT-3 subsequently repaired on mission STS-51I.

Working on finalizing a tutorial for using Gazza's STS Payloads meshes with the Shuttle Fleet V4.8; here we see Challenger releasing a TDRS satellite. I am working to finish the tutorial documentation by the end of July (if the real-world will let me...!)

Just a question: Will you use the PLB liner texture that Gazza made originally for STS Payloads? It's called "bay.dds".
If you have looked closely at photos of the PLB for the IUS missions, you'll notice that the PLB is covered by a smooth fabric liner over the standard thermal insulation used in the PLB. It was also used on the various HST missions as well.

No problem if decide against it, maybe SSU can pick it up?

From another Earth-Moon-Earth free return trip. To make things more challenging for myself, I decided to put myself in a polar orbit when I return. (really had to learn how to change my inclination by using the Moon).

The little XR2 just left Earth orbit.

The closest approach to the Moon was pretty distant as well: 17,000 km.

I got bored while aerobraking, so I took this absolutely-not-special screenshot of the cockpit.

I promptly flew right out of the atmosphere afterwards with an apoapsis still a couple thousand kilometers above the surface, which I corrected using engines only and eventually reached this 200 km * 200 km orbit with 40% of fuel remaining and 20% oxygen, which would have been enough for 3 days.

But I had been using an inclination of 90 degrees as a polar orbit because TransX said I would reach it. Unfortunately I forgot that TransX gives me the inclination relative to the ecliptic (:facepalm:) so I didn't really end up in a polar orbit. Still, it was pretty close (~80 degrees equatorial inc).
 
by doing it upside you can keep it in the atmosphere for longer and thus do a direct re-entry, and do it all in one go.
 
It basically means that the lift provided by the wings pushes you down, which, as Cras said, means you can keep it in the atmosphere for longer (you don't bounce). In the trip in the screenshots I kinda messed up and left the atmosphere too early, but the principle is the same...

Go right ahead and pick it up; I wanted to keep things relatively simple and mainly fly the missions in real-time without worrying too much about the "eye-candy". For instance, I'm working now on an alternate history series were STS-51L was not lost but made orbit and carried out her mission. Since there are no true "historical orbital elements" I'm having to research old flight plans and other documents and then align them with the actual launch time in order to have the proper MET times and orbital parameters for the deployment of TDRS-B and Spartan. The rendevous and recovery parts of each mission with a deployment is what I'm really interested in.
