Maybe I'm just not "fan enough" - or just ignorant of "art" - to understand the emotions going into so much hate of the prequels.
my :2cents:

Or the enhanced versions.
The 3 things I didn't like about the the enhanced.
1. Hans not shooting first but I understand why it was done. Heroes don't kill in cold blood.
2. No Ewok song/music at the end if the ROTJ. My kids are upset at that.
3. The ghosts at the end with the young Anakin but old Obiwan. Just stupid!

As far as the prequels go I dislike the first one. For 4 reasons.
1. Bad scripts.
2. Bad acting.
3. Anakin virgin birth stuff.
4. Miticlorines or whatever they are called. They are really stupid.

I could also add JarJar and the fact that the highly technological Naboobians seem to know very little about the highly technological Gungans that they shared a planet with.

The "Han shot first" thing happened because Han didn't start off as a hero, he was a rogue smuggler who developed into a hero as the film series progressed.

Han isn't a hero, at least not in ANH. He shoots first because that's what Han as a character would do. I'm not mad it was changed, I'm mad about what it was changed to.

George Lucas actually claims that Han never shot first. That the editing job was just done so poorly in the original release that it is lost in the mess. And that he just made it more clear when he re-cut it in the Special Edition.

But then again, George Lucas has a long long track record of lies when it comes to Star Wars history, the guy is the grandfather of retcon, both in his stories and his telling of the real life history of his "saga".

+2 to everything Cras has said.

Empire Strikes Back is usually acknolwedged by critics as the best of all the Star Wars films, and it's the one that Lucas had the least amount of input on. He produced it but someone else directed it using his basic story as an outline and the result was awesome.

Along comes Return of the Jedi, and everything was good until the cutesy cuddly Ewoks were killing armoured Stormtroopers by hitting them in the helmets with rock slings. The rest of the movie was good enough to forgive that, but that was the sign right there that Lucas was losing his touch and wanted Star Wars to cater to little children.

A generation later: BAM! Jar Jar Binks in your face.

Well episode one was fun. It still kind of sucked as far as storyline. However, It is good for a watch if you are bored. The pod race and the attack on the control ship were just awesome. And the sound. Oh my the sound.... I happened to watch it in the living room where the main 5.1 system is at. Just.... absolutely... awesome sound....

That is why I am not so happy that Disney has ILM now. ILM is the king of sound in my view and if you disagree I invite you to watch "Red Tails" Which was his last movie before the buyout.

GL doesn't even get to write the script for Episode VII, he just threw the general idea of his vision in their face.

That's why I'm optimistic, Episode VII will probably make Episode I and II look like straight-to-DVD movies.

It's been announced that the writer for Toy Story 3, Michael Arndt, will be writting Episode VII. Toy Story 3 was a great movie, because it had true moral values. It is rated #54 on IMDB's top 250 movies, and has a 98% fresh on rotten tomatoes.

This is a good choice, because if you look at the Prequel trilogy, it lacked a serious flaw - a true moral value. It was just mindless action with explosions, something Michael Bay would be proud of. Arndt is also a Star Wars fan, so he won't make it cute and cuddly, he will give Star Wars fans what they want.

Harrison Ford is on record saying he is willing to play Han Solo again, and he says Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill are also willing to talk about comimg back. Hopefully Anthony Daniels can still fit inside the C3P0 suit.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this. Spielberg was grilled by reporters the other day and said he absolutely will not direct it, so that's a good thing IMO. Not his thing anyway.

The biggest fans (like me) will of course be the harshest critics.

I could see Mark Hamill coming back, he'd be about the same age as Alec Guinness was in Episode IV. A bearded and greyed up Luke Skywalker at the end of his journey passing on the torch to a new generation would really complete the saga.

Star Wars: Space cowboys edition :shifty:

Luckily for Anthony, in this day and age he would only have to do the voiceover (which I think he also did in episode I through III?)

Mark and Carry would be insane to decline the opportunity, it's likely the last chance on a big role they're going to get. For Harrison Ford it'll be more like anostalgia trip, I should imagine... Star Wars was his very first acting gig (which he got when he showed up at the casting after fixing a door in the office, the job he was officially in the building for...)

I slightly disagree. A movie doesn't need clear moral values to be good. What Arndt showed, though, is that he is quite capable of putting emotion and good dialog into a script, the two things the prequels were missing the most. Though I suppose that there was to be more emotion in the Anakin/Padme storyline, which I guess went away as soon as they casted a wooden log for anakin in the later two movies (and was lost to extreme weirdness in the first one, when an 8 year old boy hit on Nataly Portman. I mean, there's no way you could ever make this work...).

Wasn't Harrison involved in American Graffiti, too? That seems to have come out years before Star Wars.

That's a bit unfair to Christiansen. I would rather liken his acting ability to a billet of aluminium.

Well, Padme is only supposed to be 14 at the time (the Naboo are a pedocracy, it seems). It would work more if Anakin's interactions with her were in the context of a childish crush and that true romance between them started when they met much later.

Sorry, my bad. I messed things up quite a bit here. Indeed he got the role for american graffity after befriending George Lucas while working as a carpenter at his home. (Apparently he had small roles in tv series before, but decided to give up acting because he could support his family better by being a carpenter). The role in Star Wars he got by being a line-thrower during the castings, which Lucas seemed to like so much that he gave him a major role...

I know, but they don't quite get Portman to look it...

(the Naboo are a pedocracy, it seems)

Pediocracy is a transitionary form of government for any Monarchy that has sufficient literal political backstabbing.

They do remakes/sequels/prequels of old movies which they know sell.
America, do something new!
Wait.. no, don't do anything. Too many american all-the-same-crappy-movies we already have.

Totally incorrect. A quick look at Ford's imdb page will clear that up.

As for "Space Coowboy" jokes, you know that there are roles for older people in film, right? Or does every character in Star Wars have to be under-20, poorly-acted, and annoying like Annikan and Padme?

Besides, if Clint Eastwood were to show up as a Rebel officer the Empire wouldn't stand a chance.

Yap, got that mixed up. Already corrected in my last post.

I sure do. The question would be wheather they have leading roles, because, let's face it, the primary audience for star wars movies are kids. Maybe they want to do a major change here, but I don't think they'll be that daring. The prequels could have been quite cool IMHO if they'd have shifted the tone to a kind of Sci-Fi polit-thriller, for which the setting would have been very appropriate, but such major shifts usually don't sit very well with fans...
besides, I quite like Space Cowboys :p
