OrbiterSound 4.0 (3d)

Main Features added in OrbiterSound 4.0:

-3D audio effects. (Placement of sound in 3 dimensional space, see doc below)
-Compatible with any graphic client (Tested on DX9 & DX11)
-A very cool new feature is that anyone can give a unique sound environment to any vessel using the new configuration file without any programming
-Many things changed, it's a major rework, see doc below.

Please find the complete (and almost finished) doc here

EDIT: BETA TESTERS NEEDED

OrbiterSound 4.0 is almost finished. I'll accept anyone (that have time to test and report)
as beta tester but for simplicity I'll make the beta on my forum because of the post tag
system I have to keep track of bugs/requests/todo/done.

Send me a PM so I register you on the beta team list:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/readmessage.php?action=post&to=2&name=DanSteph

If you are not registered you can do it here:
http://orbiter.dansteph.com/forum/register.php?lang=en

It would be great to have also addon developer as tester because this part was almost not tested apart by me.
This include peoples that want to test the new sound configuration file. (You can change the 43 default sound
of a vessel and even play animation sound using only a configuration file)

Much thanks !

Current number of beta tester from OF forum: 14 needed: 12-20 (I'll update this number :) )

Can't thank you enough, OrbiterSound is one of the most important addons there is. Your hard work is very appreciated.

I'm willing to help with the documentation. It's the least I can do to repay you for the great enhancements that you've made to Orbiter. Just tell me how to get the doc source.

PM sent... The txt source are all here but you'll need the whole folder so you can recreate the html on the fly using the utility. (better visual check)

Much thanks again.

Dan

Will this allow realistic propeller aircraft sound ?

Is this compliant with the latest beta patch of orbiter?

I see no one has asked the usual question yet: "Is it UMMU compatible?" :P

But seriously, this sounds awesome! Thanks, mate! :tiphat:

Will this allow realistic propeller aircraft sound ?

Not for this version, I've still several things to solve, I must not make any serious error (with the SDK for example) and I'm on Orbiter since several month. Now I REALLY must release all that.

In anyway I do not see exactly what that would mean ? A sound that don't stop at zero thrust ? (idle only)

Is this compliant with the latest beta patch of orbiter?

No idea, I do not see why they would be any serious problem but of course I'll check before release.

Do you have a link to last beta ? (I'm too busy chasing it)

Dan

Talking UMMU guys ? Better brush up on my planet dialects.

Wow; this is great!

When you say "Placement of sound in 3D space", do you mean you can play any sound at any location in the Orbiter universe regardless of what vessel is placing it?

Will OrbiterSound 4 allow for MFDs to have sounds? I'd be kind of nice to have the option (could be turned off for those who don't want it) of some sort of "beep" sound every time you press a key...

Thanks Dan!
The best add-on gets even better!!

BTW, you know, OrbiterSound is Martin's preferred add-on, as you can read here:

TH: Of all the add-ons that have been created, which ones are you favorite?
MS: Tricky – I hardly ever have opportunity to use addons, because most of the time I am running orbiter for bug fixing and feature enhancements, where addons would only get in the way. Usually the only situation where I install an addon is where it is required to reproduce a bug.
Having said that, I guess the favourite addon that I did try is Dansteph’s sound addon. It is a really essential component and increases the whole experience a lot.

Read the rest of the interview.

...Features added in OrbiterSound 4.0:...
...Compatible with any graphic client (Tested on DX9 & DX11)...
How compatible?
Does this mean there is still need for creating a Sound folder Junction/SymLink??? Or are these two separate issues?

Nice work. I especially like the planetary sounds, although I wonder what Mars wind should sound like in a thinner atmosphere.

And, just to get started on the whining of Orbinauts 20 years from now...

Release Orbitersound 10.0 today? Please, Please, Please, Please!!!

Thats what you get for sneak previews ...

When you say "Placement of sound in 3D space", do you mean you can play any sound at any location in the Orbiter universe regardless of what vessel is placing it?

No, all sound are in local vessel coordinate. There was some brainstorm about "ground sound" that you can place on planet but that would have been a 3 weeks dev. Maybe for the next version. (And as Orbiter would never be a MW3 I doubt this would be a major add, just a fun stuff)

Will OrbiterSound 4 allow for MFDs to have sounds?

This is already possible in previous version with the OrbiterSound MFDSDK, for a default click, the 'click information' is not available outside the MFD so it's not possible.

How compatible?

Fully compatible, mean no more symlink or such. Unzip and voilà. (Now I hope existing symlink would not create bugs, we'll see at test time)

Alas, for the moment...:

http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=29091

But I suppose that one nevertheless can exchange these files via mail. I suppose...

Much thanks, I'll see that.

Dan's been busy. That means a lot of new fun soon!

Does Orbiter Sound 4 support customized sounds based on altitude? You know I have long requested this for enhanced Scenario development.

Cheers,

What started off as just making your add-ons graphic's client compatible, what you have done here can only be described as epic, or at the least using the term as the minimum.

Great great great stuff, dansteph. Thanks for your hard work. Thanks indeed.
