What you are seeing is correct. That setting changes the fuel's specific impulse (Isp), which is a measurement of how much energy the fuel contains: fuel quantity remains unchanged. :) More information [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Specific_impulse"]here[/ame].

Please clarify the term ISP, my confucion not let me see more kilos of fuel that I lacked.
Thank you very much for responding so quickly.

Hello,I think I found a bug in the XR-5 1.7,if you use the hud brightness switch it only works on the screen messages, like Bay doors for instance, it doesn't work on the whole hud,BTW this is with the default orbiter client. Thanks

This is not vessel-specific, as it has this behavior with stock vessels as well (using the oapi function calls). I reported it to the Orbiter development thread: http://www.orbiter-forum.com/project.php?issueid=929

yagni01 is correct: it is because the Orbiter core renders the stock HUD using a 2D mesh. Since it is the Orbiter core that renders that, the bug is in the Orbiter core itself. :)

Okay Guys, hi for Everyone, wanna ask You something, but first of all, thank you for this great contribution, Ravenstar is almost the only ship I use in this game, mainly because im very fascinated in high atmospheric flight, and its uses, aero plane change, capture, etc.

My problem: I want to get down into a gas giant's atmosphere (any gas giant), manouver, make corrections, and safely reach a certain point at 1 Bar, sea level equivalent altitude. Like a theoretical baloon station or so...

What actually happens, I burn like a match, long before i get any usable drag or lift. To my feeling, theres something off with the heating calculations at very high mach numbers. The hull is lit up like hot iron, long before theres any standard orbiter plasma trails.

So, start at a very low, circular, eq orbit, just above the atmosphere, and try "sailplaneing" down to 1 bar, slowly, carefully. can u cut it? i cant... why? not even on uranus or neptune, which have 0.9-1.1 gravity. Also, spawning at .9 bar altitude, and trying to start has very weird results...

any advice :) ...? thx!

Here and now
I don't think this a flaw in the XR's heating code. Keep in mind that gas giants have a LOT of mass, and very high gravity. Orbital velocities are immense. Hull heating is a result of kinetic energy being transformed into heat energy, and energy is related to the square of the velocity. This means that hull heating will increase similar exponential rate related to velocity.

Also, I don't know the atmospheric temperature of all the gas giants - it may be that they are higher than you would think.

Thanks :) but no, sorry :) plz check Uranus and Neptune equatorial surface gravity, they are .9-1.1 :) not high at all. and the simple equation of flight (drag, lift, weight, and trust, all in a moment in a point of space, or air...). So, level flight 1.1 g in a 1bar enviroment shoudnt pose any problem. But it does.

and the heating at aerocapture, at around 46 Mach, the hull is glowing white hot, and barely no lift or drag.

I think you fail to understand the sheer thickness of a gas giants atmosphere, even at extremely high altitudes.

I don't know if this is a bug, or just me doing something wrong, but I loaded the scenario XR2 to ISS, deployed the Lee turbopack while landed, EVAd lee, and attached the turbopack to my back, but the turbopack has 0 fuel. Any idea what im doing wrong?

Jupiter have thermosphere, upper layer of atmosphere that have very high temperature of about 600-700 C and very low density and pressure. That temperature is allready pretty high enough for Ravenstar. So it's quite likely that Ravenstar could pass that point of atmoshpere only at very low speed... which you can not achive in any other way than breaking with engines.
If atmosphere is modeled in that way.
