Interesting idea. I think some guidelines need to be set and let me tell you why.
1--
It should not be taken from an existing 'movie theme' or be a song strongly associated with a motion picture or sports activity or anything like that. After all, when you hear the Star Trek theme you what..? You think of Star Trek! Orbiter is Orbiter, and definitely not Star Trek, or Babylon-5, or Star Wars.
2--
Orbiter is more serene and grandiose and majestic than a bunch of guitars screaming in all octaves. The theme should reflect that. It should be clean, it should have rhythm, fast parts and slow parts. It should open slow, speed up, and then drift off. Most popular music today does not do that.
3--
It should not have vocals. Voices constrain your imagination too much. The music should inspire your imagination. Many of the best themes are instrumental only!
4--
Different parts of the composition should appeal to different parts of orbiter. From the fast paced launch and landing operations to sight-seeing tours of the solar system.
5--
Perhaps an album with several selections would be best able to encompass the scope of the program.
With that having been said, perhaps a committee is needed to govern the selections.
Or you can simply make your own playlist for your own enjoyment, as I have done..
