Hey Guys!
I am new to Orbiter and also to your forum. I started playing yesterday, and i was wondering how i can improve my graphics? The game looks really old, and the earth looks bad. Apart from that i would like to know where i can download additional aircraft and how to install these?:)

Thanks already!!

Robert

:welcome: to the forum!

I would recommend checking out the Recommended Addons section of this forum. Should have everything you need to get started and get Orbiter configured to your visual tastes along with some really wonderful ships and bases.

As far as installing spacecraft, etc., almost all addons available today use the same method - use your favorite unpacking program (WinZip, 7-Zip, WinRAR, etc) to unzip the files to your Orbiter root folder, preserving folder structure while doing so.

Hope this helps. Happy Orbiting!

Hi Robert.

First of all: a good source for new add-ons is Orbit hangar: http://www.orbithangar.com

@Graphics: Keep in mind that Orbiter is not a fancy new video game or something. Its a free simulator so don't expact too impressive graphics. You can however, improve some things by downloading new textures for the planets (Level10 and up textures) and the sun etc. Check orbit hangar for packages.

Also make sure to enable the settings in the "visual effects" tab. If you want to improve your frame rate on a vista system, you will want "VistaBoost", you can find it at orbit hangar too.

@Ships: I can understand that you are looking for new vessels and aircraft, but everyone will tell you: the best way to start with orbiter is the stock delta glider which comes with the orbiter simulator. Most other vessels are MUCH more harder to use and require some more skill.

If you still can't wait, you may want to try these vessels out:
DeltaGlider IV : http://orbiter.dansteph.com/index.php?disp=dgIII
Improved and a little bit more realistic delta glider.

XR1/2/5: http://www.dougsorbiterpage.com/
Well done new ships.

If you are interested in the space shuttle, you should def try to the stock Atlantis first. There are "Shuttle Fleet" and "Space Shuttle Ultra" at orbit hangar but they require much more skill and experience and are not suitable for a beginner (I guess).

Have fun :)

Hi Robert.
@Ships: I can understand that you are looking for new vessels and aircraft, but everyone will tell you: the best way to start with orbiter is the stock delta glider which comes with the orbiter simulator.

I'd add to that this: http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2648 . It will modify slightly the stock DG so that it handles better if you're using the keyboard and will help you with reentries.

Again, try to have fun and take one step at a time, it took me 6 months to learn how to do a orbit insertion, rendezvous and reentry. The best part of Orbitersim should be learning and following tutorials!!!

Thanks guys! Ill check out these sites.
I am extremely excited to learn to orbit and re enter! im guessing it will take me sone time though :D
Do any of you have any suggestions for how to get into orbit and re enter? Are there any interesting formulas i can use to calculate angle of re entry or stuff like that? And how can i find my way to the moon? :)

Thanks guys, i appreciate your help!!! :D

I suggest you go through the Orbiter Tutorials section, starting with Go Play in Space, that's the perfect place to begin. After that, you can safely go to any of the other tutorials, they are the right stuff. :)

It can be an evidence, but don't forget to choose the best screen resolution you can (in the module video). The graphics will be better and you'll see more of you panel of commands. It took me some time to realise it...
