Hey guys yet again i was searching through wikipedia and i found that on this day on the 27th of march the great Yuri Gagarin died when he was flying in his Mig-15. The first man in space was going to check an spacecraft for one of his missions. Also Mariner 7 was luanched by NASA to flyby Mars. Wait for more of Ryans pointless space facts!

I have a special place for Yuri
My grandfather met him during the Pugwash Peace conference back in the cold war i will try to upload a pic from my family album

Didnt a woman go up also, wheres she?

Not on the photo, which was taken before the first Vostok flight, if I remember correctly.

Valentina Tereshkova was also not very liked by the Russian Officials, because she became space sick and mentioned it to the ground crew. Became something around "women unfit for spaceflight". Took a while to revise this opinion - when men became as space sick as Tereshkova on longer spaceflights. Just remember that she not only spent more time in space as all 7 Mercury astronauts, but also managed to do science. Vostok 5 was a longer mission (almost twice as many orbits), but did not do any significant science beyond engineering tests.

Today, she is a famous spaceflight personality, equal in Russia to the surviving Mercury 7 in the USA.
