News VW go two-wheeled.

Looks like a motor scooter combined with a bike.

commuters new best friend! If it was cost effective, they woulkd be great in london!

I think hybrid bicycle with electric motor assist is better because you can still pedal when battery runs low. With this you can only push with your leg. Also 20 km/h is kinda slow, I can go nearly twice as fast with ordinary bicycle.

Well, depending on my physical condition, my trekking bike has a top speed of more than ~50 km/h on straight path without significant headwinds.

missing the point - it can be folded up! Who wants to arrive at work needing a shower?

Also, the 20 km/h limit is not for breaking speed limits, but for permitting driving it without helmet and driving license. The bike is more a gimmick together with a car, than a real transport device in my eyes.

If it would exceed 40 km/h, you would need a motor cycle license.

A bicycle can be folded up too, no?

And if it had pedals, they could be used primarily as a backup if the battery died, not as a primary mode of transportation.

If a bicycle can exceed 40km/h, this makes little sense to me...

If it can exceed 40km/h with a motor it indeed would make little sense. My bike can exceed way more than 40km/h just by my legs as the motor

Honestly, I think that bikes with motors are something for lazy, physically handicapped or old people. The last two groups are excused of course.

If you happen to have favorable conditions bicycle can go twice as fast. I have reached close to 80 km/h with friends roadbike during a windstorm with ~20 m/s wind blowing from the back.

I can almost reach 40 km/h without a bike just with my two legs, so what is the point of a bike?

(30 km/h for a 100m sprint...)

And people should be punished for being lazy? :P

Looks like a cool idea. But in many US states it may require a helmet, no matter how slow it's governed. Would have to check on that. If it folds up enough that Amtrak would let me take it aboard a train as a carry-on, and if it can carry a few small luggage bags, now you're talking.

Well, you're entitled to your opinion. But as has already been stated, this is not a substitute for people who like to ride bicycles for riding's sake. It's a low-cost and convenient form of transportation for people who don't want to waste gas on the daily commute, nor do they want to take shower gear and a change of clothes to work every morning. It's also for getting around at a crowded destination. It's more akin to a scooter than a real bicycle.
