OHM Vostok

Really great add-on! From launch to landing, everything's perfectly detailed, and the sounds really make it a lot better.
Just one thing: in the manual, radio comms from ground control are mentioned, but during the flight, I only hear songs in the radio, even with only UHF on, over USSR. Am I doing anything wrong?

Maybe, you should adjust the volume?

I (think) you have to tune it.

The ground calls you over the radio only in some advanced situation, like when you explicitly request Globe correction, or landing orbits. For the rest of the time, it is static and music :-)

I has just finished a flight with Vostok 2 (sportsman the return ;) ) and I wanted to know before launching vostok 3 if to have Vostok 4 at the same time in flight if it was necessary necessarily that I use the scenario of Vostok 4 or if the rocket is present on the pad 24 hours after having to launch Vostok 3?

The panel written in Russian seems very important to me. It greatly contributes to the immersion, not to mention the historical accuracy. A screenshot with the translations in the manual would be perfect.

No, the Vostok-4 rocket won't re-appear in Vostok-3 scenario. That would have been too complicated to implement. But, at least, when you go to Vostok-4 scenario, Vostok-3 is already there. And same goes for 5-6 pair.

I've considered translating the cockpit instruments... but it is not easy to do, and there is indeed a tight balance between the autheniticy and the ease of use... Vostok is still not too complicated, plus it is quite limited in the pilot's activities - so translating just the manual looks sufficient. I judge by myself: had it been, say, in Chinese, I could fly it with just the translated manual, no problem. Apollo or Soyuz in Chinese - not so! To fly these, I'll have to put stickers on the controls!

This is the most realistic, complete, historic add-on i've ever flown!!!!

Flew gagarin's only orbit, and was amazed at the radio stations i could hear from down below.

Is that what it's supposed to be, picking up radio stations on the VHF? Cause i have some cool idea's, such as weather reports, news, etc... (in different languages, of course.)

Yes, I had these radio dreams as well :-). But I am afraid it will be an overwhelming task to compile so many sound files to keep sufficient variety. Interestingly, in real-time addons (that fly in real time, "here and now"), it may be possible to hook to the internet stations around the globe and listen to actual broadcasts... But to recreate such broadcasts _historically_, from the archives of the 60-es, day-to-day, hour-to-hour - I don't even dream what effort it will take!

Just to remind - in real life, the cosmonauts did not listen all these music radios. At least, they were not supposed to :-). They were tuned into the frequencies of the ground comm stations, all business. However, these ground stations also were broadcasting music when there was no business talk - just to maintain the contact. But these recordings had never been published, and hard to tell if they even exist anymore. So, I thought, the "period music" was the most reasonable choice.

From the cosmonauts' reports I know that even when their radios were tuned to the "proper" frequencies, they still heard all kinds of international common-band broadcasts, including music, when flying far away from the ground stations. So this implementation is not too far from reality. :)

then I have two small counsel to improve again the realism and for if to believe really first to use camshake [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4775"]CamShake v1.1 for Orbiter 2010[/ame] to have the vibrations in the cockpit during the launch and the return and the second if you have it well on trackIR and the one can say that this is the total feet you can believe me this is to test and approve ;)

I seem to remember this book saying something about the types of music the Vostok cosmonauts listened to in flight. (It was a ridiculously thorough book, after all.)

What's that above the globe?

I'm guessing...heading indicator?

This is an improved version of the dashboard, from Voshod (not Vostok). The two scales above the Globe simply replicate the Globe itself with numerical Geo coordinates. This is an improvement over "just globe", because if the Globe drifts and needs to be manually adjusted, the pilot can rarely tell exactly where he flies - windows are small. The Ground can tell the pilot his location from the radio and optical measurements - but rather than saying him "you are just a little north and east from, say, Moscow" they will say "your current latitude is AAAAA, and your longitude is BBBBBB". But then, it is not easy to adjust the small Globe buy these numbers. Much easier if you look at the top numerical scales!

Once again, this extra feature came only on Voshod - so you don't see it on Vostok.

I did not see this book, but I had enough original Russian resources. So, some of the Russian music that he was actually listening is indeed used in this addon :-)

I would like to know if it would be conceivable that these vessels evolves in Voskhod 1 and 2?

Cannot promise :-). Yes, there is a fairly small gap between Vostok and Voshod... But Vostok's code is currently in a fairly dangerous, overgrown state. It seems to be well-tested (no bug reports so far), but to do any significant additions to it safely, it will have to be heavily refactored. And the work on this past addon was quite exhaustive, so we are not yet planning anything next - just relaxing and enjoying life outside Orbiter :) Eventually something will come next - but I simply don't know what and when.

I did a little bit of work on a Voskhod spacecraft addon based on Jekka's spacecraft3/multistage2 implementation of the Vostok. I stopped working on it because of other projects but I did write some ms2 guidance and config files for the 11A57 rocket and sc3 configs for the spacecraft itself. I didn't get very far on the meshes, however. All I have are rudimentary models of the backup TDU engine, virtual cockpit, and lengthened second stage.

I'd love to help with a Voskhod addon in any way I can but I'm afraid I don't have much to offer in the way of skills of any kind.

I don't know if my next project will be Voshod. Maybe not. I can do only one at a time, and there are several competing directions... Voshod does not look too appealing - it is still very hard, but it will be much of a repetition of Vostok. Lot of work for a less rewarding result :-).

Speaking of which, Aren't yo guys going to be making the rebirth of the mercury program. I think its time to have the Americans a turn with these features
