Yes I want to give a shout out to Longjap for his work on this and other who are helping to make this fly but gattispilot took his time to meet with me and get this to work for me. I hope everyone who flies orbiter will be able to use this soon. Now we need to look to be able to land on the moon

try not to put the word ramp and the slstower2 vessel. Let it load by itself, do your adjustment and then save the scenario, then reopen. Does it work?

Yes kinda. But the attachment named "pad" is wrong. I think that it creates it.

Another odd thing the tower or mslaunchpad doesn't show up in F3 view. You need to switch focus on it to operate arms,.....

it's not wrong, it creates it by default, you have to adapt your pad so it works.

it's coded on purpose, launch pad should be automatic and part of the the scenery, nothing you should worry about when you're flying your mission to mars...

if you want it to be focus active just force setenablefocus in your pad module, most probably in your clbkpostcreation

Ok. Will I just added a child to the empty Module and all works it launches well.

And that solved the focus issue so all is well:) Thank alot:cheers:

Now we need missions. We have been able to get the Ts_Tugboat into orbit. I had a request for the Orion and MAV or lander for the moon.

@Gattispilot

In one of the previous posts you mentioned:
OK I fixed the EUS. And added some fairing for a True CargoII

Would you mind to share the extended fairing ?

I am currently planning a full semi-fictional Mars mission:
-TUG boat launched on Quasar as a Mars-transfer-vehicle
-HAB modules (Torricelli and Nobile..which come with the Antares addon), launched on
a Jarvis-C (two modules with one strike...works great..)
-Orion fror crew-transfer and later for reetry back to earth launched on a Jarvis-L
-and now the problem: MAV launched to TUG-boat with the SLS.
Also here, the fairing needs more diameter for the wide HIAD.
I don't want to use the giant Quasar just for the MAV.

You might give some thought to using Starlab as the Mars transfer vehicle with the tug. A good landing site would be the Nili Caldera. there seems to be dried up thermal pools there. Great place to look for fossils

Ok. I think a new zip will be going with the newest tower. And other things needed.

But I can do a zip of the fairings. I think they were from 2010 SLS. I just copied over from 2010.

There is a new hill for the crawler to climb with the tower and VAB.

You might give some thought to using Starlab as the Mars transfer vehicle with the tug.

Starlab is very large but also very heavy, partly because of his water-based radiation shield. It will require three Quasar launches to be sent just in lunar orbit (one for the station itself and two for the propulsion modules), and four launches if you want use it in a Earth-Mars-Earth trip.

The idea was, to utilize some different launchers, to make the mission more interesting.
Another idea was, what can be done with addons we allready have ?
Means...no 3D-editing work needed.
So I came up with this idea.
I have now finished to configure 3 of the 4 needed launchers:

-Quasar 452 for the Tug-Boat...full loaded
The weight is a bit above the specifications (238 mT vs allowed 232 mT), but it reaches nicely an orbit of 185x210. (I even have some fuel letf to de-orbit the upper-stage to enjoy the fireworks)
I have had some issues when used MS2015's complex-fligtmodel.
Right after booster separation, the rocket exlodes into a giant fireball.
The reason was the AP pitching-behaviour was too agressive in the lower part of the atmosphere (Still too much drag to-do wild-pitching below 50 kms).
So simple solution: 100 percent engine-thrust all the way up.
In this case booster-separation happens at 75-80 kms (AFAIR...need to double-check the telemetry-file).

-Jarvis-L for the Orion
Here I used the Antares-SR interstage to "assemble" the Orion to this launcher
Just for fun and to have the rocket looks more sporty, I have used the Antares-SR fairing until altitude of 40 kms.
Does not make sense to put a fairing above a LES, but looks nice.
When reached its orbit of 230x450 km, the upper-stage has had about 800 m/s DV left.
So performance-wise, the perfect rocket for an Orion-LEO-launch.

-Jarvis-C
The habitat (Torricelli) and the Tug-Controll-Module (Nobile) are laucnhed together on the he Jarvis-C using it's dual-payload-module.
The orbit will be 450x450, so the Tug can catch-up the modules for docking later on.

-???mabye the SLS Cargo Block 1B
Launching the MAV at very end, which will be catched-up by the Tug, too.

The biggest challenges I see in this setup:
-landing the MAV at the desired spot (I found a nice spot within the Valles Mariners area).
Nice view and relative flat terrain, to avoid endless slipping of the lander.
-When returning from Mars, using Transx to plan a direct approach to the still waiting Orion (using Burn-Time-Calculator's "target/offset" function).
-finding a fairing which matches the MAV's hughe diameter :)

But....I don't want to hijack this thread. :eek:fftopic:

But I can do a zip of the fairings. I think they were from 2010 SLS
This would be great. But...wait, the 2010 version ?....maybe I have it allready.
Do you mean your SLS which is a reuirement to run this 2016-SLS ?

Yes. I think the name of the mesh is: SLS_105T_EUS_PAYLOADFAIR1.msh

Thanks, I found them and will give them a try.

EDIT:

I tried it, but it seems to be even worse.
This HIAD gives me headache....

EDIT2:

The MAV needs def a 12 m diameter fairing, like the Quasar has.
But it should be shrinked to the end, so it matches its diameter with the rocket.

This is what we are using for Block2. The only issue which I haven't figured out is the 2nd fairing texture is reversed.

It has a config.ini for block2 with no cargo

You made my day.
Many thanks.

The MAV matches prefectly into the fairing now.

In the meantime, I tried to re-scale the existent SLS2016 fairing...but no luck.
I have no experience with todays 3D-editing-tools.
The last one I tried was "GigaCad+" on a Commodore 64.

So I read a lot of stuff and tried Blender, Wings3D and Anim8or.
I ended up with Anim8or+Meshwizard+MshMaker-combo.

Beside that Anim8or was not able to open the textures (even after converting from DDS to BMP...copied to Anim8or's configured Text-dir...), something went wrong between the various conversions.

Maybe I have done something wrong, but that's the way I have done it:

-used MeshWizard to convert MSH to Anim8or-format
-rescaled the middle section of the fairing in Anim8or
-exported to 3ds-format
-used MshMaker to convert the 3ds back to MSH
-used Meshwizard to rotate the Fairing in its correct position+created a mirrored version of the same MSH.

All this ended up with a strange fairing.
Not perfect circlar, and the scaling was to big (you could hide 3 quarter of the entire rocket in it).

However, I have tested your config and it works great.
Ok., after reaching a low orbit of 185x220, I have had 4739 DV left...but I don't care anymore.

Thank again.

(config for MAV attached)

3 of the 4 starts successfully done.
-the Torricelli and the Nobile are docked Tug Boat's side-docks.
-the Orion for crew transfer has docked, too.
-the last launch will be the SLS with the MAV (will use Tug Boat's front dock, where the Orion curently is docked)

All looks nice, but the mission could be a bit more challenging as expeted.
Right now, the Tug has 14000 DV left ( will be less DV with the heavier MAV docked later on)

As mentiond, I am planning on the return-trip a direct Orion-approach, so DV could be a problem (2x orbit-insert...Mars....and later Earth

I see two options:

1. sending a tanker (maybe the Verrazzano on top of a Jarvis-H) to Mars, too.
So navigating two vessels at the same time
or...I never tried this
2. on the trip back to Earth encountering the tanker in deep-space....
:hmm:

Someone suggested a Lunar Lander called the Talon from the 1980's. It looks like an Orion MPCV with extra tanks. Mounted on an Altair vessel.

Any ideas?

Well I think I got the base.cfg fixes. But now the SLS shots off fast. The MS2015 sample also does it. This is for 2010. Any one else have this issue
