What are my fellow orbinaut's worst injury/hospital stories?

I don't remember it, but I'm told that I drank lamp oil at the age of 2 and had to have my stomach pumped with charcoal.

Scratched my eyeball on the corner of a cereal box (don't remember how old I was, but I think I was about 9...)

Broke my foot when I jumped off the monkey bars on a dare from my little brother (age 13-14)

Got chopped across both legs with an axe while helping clean up a church-yard after a hurricane (age 12)

Doesn't quite fit in the category, but I passed out in the bathroom a few months ago after getting out of the tub.

I was playing with my friends dog and i decided to flip him over like i do my own and it bit me right through my thumb...
I was holding a stapler and it shot a staple into my thumb...
I was opening a peanut jar and it slashed my thumb...
I got my thumb caught in a door...
Even worst is that it was all the same thumb...

I was pushed through a reinforced glass window by some friends aged 14 - nice scar across my forehead from that one.

Was stabbed through the right hand by a robber wielding a screwdriver aged 16.

Shot in the right foot by a .22 bullet by a friend in an accidental shooting. Aged 19 then.

Accidentally stabbed myself through the left wrist with a knife aged 20, trying to open a package - nice suicide-type scar there.

Fell from a second storey wall while trying to "break into" a neighbour's flat to see if he was OK (he could be seen passed out on his couch) - big scar from the metal implant to rebuild my left upper arm bone (humerus). I was 25 then, and the neighbour was fine, just dead drunk.

Left pinkie permanently mangled after an ex-girlfriend broke it. She had hiccups, I tried to scare her by shouting boo, she did a reflex kick, pinkie smashed up. Aged 28 then.

Cut myself across the left palm with a katana just a few months ago. Jagged but small scar. Bloody careless, that.

Currently nursing a massively swollen left hand as the fingers were kicked back by my son when we were doing kung-fu last weekend. Don't think the fingers are broken though.

My left side is pretty much a mess of scars, not so bad on the right. I think I unconsciously protect my right side, and the left gets more exposed to misfortune.

Ouch.

Rode a slide off the hill under a tree when about 4-5 yo, hitting the head on a branch. that took stitches, but nothing is left by now.

Had an assumed-dud firecracker blow up in my hand, at about 8 yo. Some burns, nothing permanent.

Had a permanent tooth drilled like milk one at around 10yo, soviet clinic, anesthesia not invented yet. Had shudders on whining sounds for a decade.

Got hit by a car while riding a bicycle, at around 12 yo. Nice round scar on the back of my head, and some on the back where the skin was scraped off by sliding on pavement, but nothing badly permanent.

Had the girl i had a crush for at about 15 yo sitting in front of me kissing someone else and asking how are you doing at the love front. Still hurts a little.

Had to take a mathematical probability exam at 21 yo, which started at 7:00, and kept on going past 23:00, when i finally passed. Still gives shudders to remember.

Fell out of a shopping cart on my head, at about 18 mon of age. (yea, I know, that explains it)

Slid down a snow slope one winter, found a broken bottle with my left cheek. age 14

Fell off a 8' ladder onto a concrete footing, broke my thumb. age 30

"anesthesia not invented yet"? Chloroform was first used as an anesthetic in 1858, and was commonly used during (united states) civil war amputations, contrary to common belief.
Umm I was 8 and i had two canine teeth pulled, they had full adult roots and werent going to come out for 5-6 years according to my dentist.
Also i had braces on for four years (December 7th, 2007 to March 25th, 2011 yes i kept those dates i hated braces (and still do even without them)) and they hurt like umm well i shouldnt say it.
Dental crap sucks.

Got hit in the face by a hockey ball a couple or years ago. Shattered all the cartilage in my nose, wouldn't stop bleeding and kept in hospital because of it with a bit of plastic spatula rammed up each nostril to stop the bleeding. Lost about a pint of bloodon the pitch. Nose swelled to size of a tomato

Sure, i should have said reasons to use it for tooth jobs were not invented there yet. Late Soviet dental care gave shudders to the western dentists who had to fix the fallout.

Oh ok I get what you are saying. I've never personally had to use any anesthetics for dental reasons or any reason for that matter. I don't really have a 'injury/hospital' story.

I've never even had stitches. No broken bones, no hospital stays. More little hand injuries than I can count, though, from working on various automotive projects. Probably my least favorite was a 1.5" long 2nd degree burn on my forearm from a soldering iron.

It seems I'm doing well so far - I whacked my head when I was two or three (fell off a chair whilst eating a scone at the London Transportation Museum - very dramatic!), I may have cracked my skull or something from it, not really sure. Apparently I still have a scar somewhere beneath my hair, though.

A few years later chopped off the top of my ring finger right above the bone (was in the hinge of a door as it shut, never quite worked out how that happened), but it's since regrown (looks a little funny, though).

And that's about it, I think...

Vineyard Ave., Duarte, California. A quite steep road where you could build up some real speed coming down. And every boy in town with a bike had a mom who told them, "You keep away from Vineyard Ave. with that bike!" So, there I was, coming down for the second time that day when the front tire started wobbling. I had a speedometer on my Stingray, and, as I went over, noticed that it was registering 42mph. Two broken front teeth, the skin on my chest, stomach, and right forearm got left on the road, left thumb, forefinger, and wrist broken. And a mild concussion from the impact with the curb.

The worst part, though, was that it was Mothers Day!

Fell on a broken chair when 2-3 yo. Still some scars on my back.
Called a rather large boy stupid when 7 years old, lost a tooth, but more pride than blood leaked out.
Hit in the face with a baseball in midfield at some point in my childhood. No memory of the event but apparently the nose wasn't broken. The batter had a good arm. Question is...was it fair or foul?
Foot run over by a slow-moving truck when I was 13 or 14 yo, no lasting injury. Thank goodness for steel-toed boots.
Fell off some bicycles, scraped knees, minor head injuries all through youth, still ongoing. I've never broken a bone or had stitches, though I daresay I've done enough brainless things to deserve a few! :P

Yikes. >.<

Nothing major that I can think of. No broken bones or even close. Never lost much blood other than for blood tests. When I was young though, I apparently tripped onto cement or something and was young enough to get a small permanent scar on the back of my hand. I remember once having the corner of a metal box going into my shin, but I don't remember much pain. I once stuck my hand in hot ashes while young. (thought they had cooled down already) I've scraped my knuckles after accidentally punching a wall. (i wasn't even trying to punch anything!) I more recently took a baseball to the eye. It hit slow but perfectly centered on the eyeball and froze my pupil small for a week. (no bruising! The eyeball really took most of the impact)

About the worst physical pain I can remember is after I got my wisdom teeth out and the anaesthetic was wearing off, but my mom wasn't home from the pharmacy with the painkillers.

Was walking through my home one night at age on 16, heading for the lavatory, and got suddenly attacked by my cat jumping on my arm. Screamed, jumped up and broken my right hallux when I landed on it.

Those are the ones that hurt most of all. Physical pain usually passes quickly and can be controlled, or at least reduced, by discipline and mind-tricks.

But being slammed in love lingers for a looooong time...

@SiberianTiger - Don't know what a hallux is, but being attacked by your own pet cat sucks badly.

OK, your big toe. Big toe broken in a savage midnight attack by pet :censored:cat - pardon me if I giggle a bit on that one.

EDIT: Didn't know the common word for a cat was offensive, but so be it. Sometimes life's a female dog.
