Programming Question The moon size?

i always fly at 50 fov. otherwise the HUD is stOOpid and only shows unlabled 5 degree hashmarks. i only switch to 20 degrees so that i can take in the vistas and scenery of space travel, or if i think to myself, "hmmm... i wonder how jupiter would look if i were this close and it was outside my window" or "hmmm i wonder how big hawaii looks from the space station" but i don't even know if its accurate enough to answer those questions anyhow.

whether you know it or not, you've got a pretty good instinct about what size of moon "looks" real to you.

No, sadly not. The moon is about 0.5° wide in the sky, so if you have a FOV of 40°, you should be able to fit 80 moons vertically on the screen. I know somebody did exactly this with a orbiter screenshot, and verified this.

yes urwumpe i already said that earlier. its not a debate about whether orbiter renders the moon at the correct size, he wants to "see" the moon in his eyeball FOV at a "natural size" on his monitor, so i said to zoom in until it looks good because only he knows what is a so called natual size to him. since there is no specific universal fov that will make a .5 degree moon on your retina, it depends on the distance to the monitor and the size of the screen and unfortunately and unscientifically, the viewers opinion when it comes to fine tuning it. if you REALLY wanted to, you could hold a caliper at arms length adjusted to the size of the moon on your monitor at arms length, and then hold the same caliper up to the moon in the sky and see if it matches.

p.s. so the orbiter FOV is vertical? i always wondered whether it was vertical or horizontal. never bothered to try any type of tests to find out. that makes sense cuz i was thinking it seemed a little wide when i made that ratio graphic yesterday
