Gaming The Kerbal Space Program - Version 1.2.x

Click the part in the R&D tree and then click research. or something like that.
Thanks, that seemed to do it. The Skipper engine was still confusing me for a bit since it already said "owned" under one R&D tree, but was double listed in an earlier tree and needed to be "purchased" there.

Some parts moved around in the recent updates, so those would have been marked as 'purchased' on their original nodes, but will be seen as new entries on saves from older versions now. The automatic purchasing for parts inside a node only works when you first unlock the node on the tree.

Cheers

Thanks, that makes sense. Still don't know why my probe exploded, but I guess the kraken could have been paying me a visit.

KSP is on Steam's summer sales of the day for 40% off.

And with 0.24 just around the corner, now is an excellent time to pick it up!

Impressive design at 4:00. Sepratron rocket to orbit.

That actually looks cooler and more fun than I expected. Nice job as always, Squad!

I've been playing 64-bit KSP for more than a year in Linux, and that's nothing special. I don't know why is everybody so happy. Going 64-bit isn't a solution to all problems.

No, but it's a solution to quite a few.:)

Only to one problem, from what I saw.

The RAM limit of 32-bit is very annoying in games circa 2010. Imposes a serious modding limitation in Skyrim for example. I don't know how much RAM KSP typically needs with current mods though.

Let's just say that I've burned though over 6 GB with my wide range of mods in 0.23.5...

V 0.24 is closing in, and it does look sweet.

Closing in? I suspect it's less than a week away. It would have been out today if Unity hadn't had a last-minute issue.

Update 0.24

A new KSP update is available on Steam now.

.24 is good, you can make much longer rockets without it wobbling all over the place. I think the game is more solid and stable. I have not tried the new features out. Meckjeb works fine but does not show up in the 64 bit version.

MechJeb is almost essential, even thou people say it is cheating, it adds functions like the Smart A.S.S so you have buttons for prograde, retrograde, NML+/- etc which Orbiter comes even with basic install. Having to manually turn the ship towards the prograde position is a PITB.

The Maneuver Planner part of MechJeb is very impressive, you simply click and select your target, choose the function you want to perform and click create&execute node button. Everything is done for you, I have noticed if you choose hohnmann transfer, if you do not match planes with target first it will fail.

Available maneuvers
2.1 Circularize
2.2 Change periapsis
2.3 Change apoapsis
2.4 Change both periapsis and apoapsis
2.5 Change inclination
2.6 Match planes with target
2.7 Hohmann transfer to target
2.8 Transfer to another planet
2.9 Fine tune closest approach to target
2.10 Intercept target at chosen time
2.11 Match velocities with target
