How do you use this?

Go to your KSP game directory, find the folder called Ships, in it create a new Notepad file, give it a name, and then change the .txt extension to .craft Now go in to the game, and load the ship from the top right menu in the VAB screen.
 
So...now I am flying, maybe orbiting, at 5500K altitude (increasing), at 2800 m/s (slowly decreasing), MET is T + 39 minutes, Kerb-Earth is far away, Jeb is smiling...but...what am I supposed to do, apart from watching and waiting?

Edit: now 1 hour into flight, 9000K Alt, 2.700 m/s...

I thought it was something like in Orbiter (7.000 m/s), but I forgot that Kearth is much smaller...

Well, while it's true that right now there isn't much "to do", as in game goals or achievements or whatever, it still is insanely fun to make utter improbable rockets!

To reach orbit you should have about 2500km/s of horizontal velocity at about 50,000 meters of altitude.
That will give you a really high Apoapsis of around 350,000 meters and a Periapsis of about 40,000 meters.

These figures are from memory only, you have to use the 3D HSI's prograde and vector indicator to help you.

I shoot for like 70,000m at about 2100- 2300 m/s. The higher altitude allows me to see the base earlier so I have more time to react and get in position for retro burn. :tiphat:

You don't have to see the base! It's indicated with the purple icons on the navball. :thumbup:

That nav ball won't drop you directly over the top of the base. It will get you close. But I switch to visual as I slow down and drop right on the surface texture of the base. Only way I have been able to do it without RCS and more intrumentation. These are planned features BTW maybe after this next update sometime after Aug 8th (or Tuesday as we say in these forums :) )
 
There seems to be a bug in the 0.85 release. The loading (clicking Start game, clicking VAB and then launch pad) takes forever or even freezes. I just clicked VAB and left it for 5 minutes before I reset my computer...

There won't be a native Linux version I'm afraid, but the game does run ok under Wine, albeit with some input problems (some reported the right-mouse button won't work).

So we're adding keys to control the camera, so those running Linux or with broken mice (:rolleyes:) can still play.

There will be a Mac version though, we're working on it now.
