Strange white flashes

Hi.

I just decided to get back to orbiter again after a one-year absence. In the meantime i got a new computer and Vista. So i downloaded the basic pacage, hi res textures and a couple of addons. But in game, i get wierd white flashes on the screen. They apeear no matter what settings i use, and if i just start with basic pacge or with all the addons. Its really bothering me, so i would much apreciate it if someone has any ideas as of what this could be.

Specs:
NVidia 8800GT 512MB
Intel Core2Duo 2.66GHz
4GB ram
Vista 32bit

P.S. I also get really low fps while using Shuttle fleet. I think its wierd that i can run crysis on high, but i cant launch shuttle fleet with more than 11fps...

Hmmm. Have you checked that you're not running in RGB Emulation mode?

I get the white flashes as well

I do every now and then but as soon as I lift off it clears up.

its not running in rgb emulation, thats the first thing i checked. it seems that the flashes are reduced if i just use Direct3D HAL, not Direct3D T&L HAL.

also, any ideas as to why the suttle fleet works so slowly?

if you have pressed F9 to show vessel names that impacts performance (I dont know why it does)

With my new GeForce 6200 I also noticed an increase in performance and decrease of visual bugs when going from T&L HAL to just HAL. But still, no ideas.:blink:

I had the same problem and it turned out to be a virus scanner started running while I was in Orbiter. I scheduled the scanner (Windows Defender, AVG) to run at a diffent time, and it seemed to fix the problem.

There's your low FPS cause then! The Shuttle Fleet Expansion Pack uses LC-39 structures that are very high-res and doesn't give alot of detail for the performance impact it causes.

I have seen white flashes when running in full-screen mode when other applications that update the display are also running (e.g., the sidebar). I don't get flashes in windowed mode, however. The full-screen flashes cleared up when I closed the sidebar and all other windows that update the screen. If you still get white flashes in full-screen mode after that, try closing the sidebar and rebooting. Then don't open any windows except Orbiter and try it again.
