OHM SpaceX launch vehicles and Dragon

About a year ago I had a conversation with Glider, estimating the power required for a pusher-type launch abort system. Now I read the story about SpaceX testing their first 'SuperDraco' abort engine:

"Eight SuperDracos will be built into the sidewalls of the Dragon spacecraft, producing up to 120,000 pounds of axial thrust to quickly carry astronauts to safety should an emergency occur during launch," said Elon Musk.

120,000 pounds translates into 120,000*0.454*9.81/1000 = 534 kN

Looking at our conversation about a year ago the estimation was:
Vertical thrust F = 540 kN (7,500 kg x 72 m/s²)

I would say that was right on the money :)

btw: Thank you Glider for your awesome addon!

? What do you mean, boosting you up? Climbing?

I pressed the Propulsive Landing button.

Before I'm supposed to land, the parachutes are removed (as normal). But at an altitude of about 180 m, the rockets burn, carrying me up a few hundred meters every time, and then I fall back down (triggering the rockets again).

And it does this again and again until it runs out of fuel.

Well, your recording cuts out at 270 seconds into the flight. I can't follow you all the way down and see what you're talking about. Sorry.

I had no problem landing normally.
:hmm: Do you have the 2010P2 release?

2010P1.

Is it because I accelerated time x10 during re-entry/parachute? (I didn't accelerate time when it was about 1 km in altitude)

Try it with that to see if that causes it.

Same as mojoey. No problems. Let's see an orbiter.log and an orbiter.cfg from both of you folks with this problem, and we'll see what that says.

HI I found a bug with the FalconXX fairing, after you press p to make it transparent one half of the fairing dissapears ,and won't show up again even after pushing P again.

Is it possible to rotate how the crew capsule is attached to the trunk? So the solar panels are not vertical, but horizontal relative to the astronauts?

I'm guessing you can't, as there's nothing in the config or scenario files that lets me do that. But I want to make a video with the Dragon, and I don't want to see it docked to the ISS with people thinking, "the solar panels are in the wrong orientation"

If I rotate the docking port of the ISS by 90 deg, that just results in the crew capsule being rotated 90 deg and I don't want that.

Re: Spacecraft, launch pad, everything not visible

Hello!

I just downloaded this SpaceX addon onto Orbiter 100830. However, when I opened a scenario, nothing appears, not even the spacecraft, launch pad, etc. Only the Earth appears. I tried to download the VC++ 2010 Redistributable package, but it says that it cannot run on this computer (Windows Vista). Anyone know how to resolve this problem? I'd be glad to hear.

Nothing apears at start of scenario

You need to install Kev's LC40 & LC41 launchpads, see the first version of the falcon/dragon by glider.

Re: Launch escape tower and payloads?

Hi everyone!

I've finally installed the LC40/41, and the SpaceX worked perfectly. However, I have something to note: the launch escape tower was not visible on the manned Dragon Falcon 9 missions and also is the payload changeable for the unmanned missions, instead of the default "cylinder"? Is it supposed to be like that? I would want to know.

Hasn't the IRL dragon switched to a pusher escape system? I think the lack of the escape tower is a change to reflect reality.

As for the payload, it appears to be defined fairly straightforwardly in the scenario file.

Simple question from a Dragon noob, but how do you (or can you?) charge the batteries on the ground? Or is there a way prevent the batteries from draining while the Falcon9 is on the pad, without having to resort to ENV 0? Like on very very long waits...

I think improvements might be in order for this addon. Apparently the dragon on todays launch (May 22) has an orbit of
346km Apogee
297km Perigee

Apogee is fine but the perigee seems to make it to at least at 90km, which is not right. Also doesn't the solar panel plates and dragon fairing jettison during ascent after the 1st stage jettisons?
