Space Shuttle Ultra development thread

I've fixed the RMS IK bug. I'll finish updating the R2 switch positions and put the updated files on sourceforge tomorrow.

Awesome !! Did you learn alot about IK animations doing it ? ;)

How about putting in rudimentary support for the OBSS?

How about putting in rudimentary support for the OBSS?

Should be on the TODO. I think SiameseCat should do that, as he already works on the RMS, but if he has better plans for his free time project, I would not mind doing it.

When I have finished development of the new panel frame work, I wanted to test it and then start implementing the panels in the new framework (which will be rather fast as the coordinates are already known).

When this is done and tested (behavior, saving scenario, loading scenario, playback of VC events), I wanted to implement the navigation hardware, as these don't depend in their function on other hardware, only on Orbiters physics engine.

I between this, I think about adding a preliminary GLS, but only as evil hack.

Well, all it really needs is the MPM animation(a duplicate of the RMS rollout code should do it) and an attachment point tied to it.

That's it. The OBSS would be attached as a seperate vessel in the scenario file as this would allow use to fly missions with the OBSS MPMs, but not the OBSS itself ala STS-124/1J.

Can be done, I thought we plan to control the OBSS over the aft panels?

I haven't received any clear replies on this, but what I have gotten is that the LDRI is commanded from panel A7U. The OBSS MPMs is controlled by the STBD RMS switches on A8L.

I have put one eye on the PDRS checklist in the last minutes, it mostly seems to use similar functions as the RMS, except the sensor package on A7U.

I don't know yet where we have the SPEE controls though.

SPEE? Special Purpose End Effector?

Yes. On R12 is SPEE POWER - ON/OFF. But where can be checked if there is a SPEE power loss?

Is the SPEE BTW the same concept that was also demanded for the never build solar array module for the Shuttle?

Could be. Same deal with OMS Kit lights and switches.

But the OMS kit was still not used, right? Of course, I would like doing some alternative history hardware for the Shuttle, but after the basic functionality.

Maybe for the release, one or two, favorite missions ?

STS-1 comes to mind.

DaveS,

The grapple point on the RMS is wrong, the new grapple point should be;

Grapple point = -2.77,2.13,-6.05

I've already fixed the grapple point. Before we add OBSS support, I think it might be a good idea to create a PayloadBaySubsystem class to handle the payload bay stuff (the RMS would be separate from this). I'd also like to implement rotational IK for the RMS soon.

For STS-1 we would need to be able to replace the ET mesh by the STS-1 ET as well as use the old historic mass properties.

What was the first flight of Atlantis with MEDS? STS-101 right?

I currently play STS-120 as test mission, maybe we can make a STS-120 mission. Creating some scenarios for each flight day would be no problem for me, once loading and saving of the current features really works.

The OMS Kit was never even more than a study. Same thing with the starboard RMS. If it hadn't been for the Columbia accident, those switches would still be totally unused.

Yes. Columbia fist flew with MEDS on STS-109, Discovery on STS-114 and Endeavour on STS-118.

Another good test scenario would be STS-109 as it would really excersie the RMS, especially the IK part during the grapple and berthing of the telescope to the FSS.

Maybe C3PO could donate his excellent EMU meshes for use during the EVAs?

I checked in the updated Atlantis and PanelR2 files. The R2 oapiVCSetAreaClickmode_Quadrilateral line still needs to be updated. Has anyone done the 13L stuff or should I work on that?
