Discussion Space: 1999 updates ?

I'll share with you my configs when I have a few more things placed.
I have a working Sol1999 config with Alpha and Nuclear Waste facility (it's NDA 2 ) as bases on they own 1999 folder, with a dedicated moon1999.cfg. It's easier to maintain a clean Orbiter install that way.

I'm also adding a period configuration, so that more surface bases will be available in latter dates. Of course, inspiration came from World of 2001.
Let me have a at least a list of what was mentioned on the series and get that into surface bases (even if just with one default orbiter pad) so that we can all be on the same page.

The avaliable Nuclear Waste facility in OH is OK, but it's missing the nearby depot (a round building). As we have a Buggy and astronauts, it would be a nice addition and a place to go after you land there .

The antigrav towers are also nice! What other cargo needs to be modeled ?

Something like this:
nucbase.jpg

Also here is what the tower came in:
cargo99.jpg

We need to rework my Space1999 astronaut. Also I beleive it is quite possible to make the base using 2.0 just make crate of the lights,....load them using UCD onto a Eagleskid. And there you go.

First cockpit test in Orbiter:

I'm satisfied with the viewpoint, it just needs to extend further out front a little so that the Eagle's cabin is parcially visible. I might put another small screen on the middle panel between the windows. Something like that was shown on the series so it makes sense.

I've also added some Eagle sounds to the config, and it's getting really atmospheric. Of course, this is all for the spacecraft3 Eagle.

Actually, mine came with Moonbase Alpha: http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2858

That version is configured through the spacecraft.dll and it's easy to change things like virtual cockpits, smoke, engine parameters, sound, etc. As opposed to custom .dll vessels, that have special functionality but are hard coded.

But in the moonbase alpha config folder there is no file for the eagle. I thought the spacecraft3 eagle would be the one I posted.

You are right... I haven't been able to locate the version I'm using on OH. As I installed several space1999 addons I thought it came with Alpha but that version is custom .dll
My scenarios are loading: Eagle-S:spacecraft\spacecraft3
It doesn't matter much as textures and meshes seem to be consistent over the difference Eagle versions, so my textures will suit them all.

I've been following your progress with interest. I have an installation of Orbiter with Hispaorbiter's [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=612"]New Eagle[/ame] , Santanas' [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2858"]Space: 1999 Mooonbase Alpha (beta V.5a)[/ame] , and Andymc's [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1232"]1999 Nuclear Facility V3[/ame] (a lot of config editing here). I like what you're doing with the cockpit. I've looked at clips from the show with views from the Eagle's cockpit while in flight and your rendering is conisitent with the show but I agree with Andy44 about the view from the cockpit with the glareshield and the Eagle's cowl. It would be great to merge your VC with the shape & texture of Hispaorbiter's New Eagle and the functionality of Kev Sharnow's [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2216"]1999 Eagle Spacecraft3.dll ver2[/ame] and the addition of a functional winch

Just my two cents. Keep up the good work
Ben

One issue is this. UMMU. With the SC3 Eagle you can use UMMUFA to get Ummu added. Or use UMMUFA to get into a module for the eagles. But I made a new module for these so that Ummu is included and when the airlock is open a door is visible open/closed.

Ok, I'm using Eagle cockpit v1.0 - [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1192"]Eagle cockpit v1.0[/ame] by Krzysztof "Razorblade". My installation just happened to feature that version, at least it worked for me so I started with that.

Also, don't forget the spacedock - http://www.4shared.com/file/50073356/2fdd10c6/_2__CENTURI.html

As I mentioned earlier, all eagle versions seem to use the same meshes and textures, so the repaint will be usable for all versions.

Also, I'll release the cockpit mesh with a sc3 config. I don't know or have much interest to mess with custom .dll, but if someone wishes to use my cockpit mesh, I'm all for it!

I've added those parts to the cockpit mesh. The dimensions are aproximate from those of the eagle models. As you can see the view is very reduced:
eaglecockpit.jpg

Here's a larger FOV:
eaglecockpit2.jpg

I agree that it looks more like the Eagle, but I'll reduce the "nose" length so that it gives better visibility down and the glare shields comes from the sides (as it is it looks as if it starts right on the bottom edge of the window). There's not much point in having a VC if it is unusable for flying.

Looks great! I agree with your though about trimming the cowling. The effect does give you the feeling that you are really "in" the Eagle. I haven't used the cockpit from Eagle cockpit v1.0 . I'll have to look at it. I've been playing with the interchangeable pods of the 1999 Eagle Spacecraft3.dll ver2 and note a possible problem. See the following:

With the pods detached, there is no way to accurately allign or dock with the pods for reattachemnt. I've had a little experience with DanSteph's UMMU through the DG IV. Both approaches seem similar. Get close enough, hit the appropriate keystroke, and reattachment occurs. Would it be possible (or even desireable) to make each pod dockable so you can use instruments to fly an accurate approach for reattachment?

Once again, just my thoughts. Happy New Year to all!

Ben

One issue is NO docking on the Ground. I think you could add a transponder to each module. I am reworking my Ummu guy.

Gattispilot,
Easier said than done with the transponder. The interchangeable pods of the 1999 Eagle Spacecraft3.dll ver2 don't have a config/vessel file. For now, I'll just use Camera MFD and eyeball the approach.

Thanks,
Ben

... I haven't used the cockpit from Eagle cockpit v1.0 ...

That's the source of my confusion! That addon isn't just a cockpit, it has all the complete Eagle versions!

Here's the associated read-me, so that everybody knows what I'm working with:

Eagle_Cockpit

Eagles with separate cockpits:

Krzysztof "Razorblade"
[email protected]

This is inspired by excellent addons: Zardoz "EagleII" and Jorge Iglesias "New Eagle"

Eagle meshes by Frying Tiger and payload meshes by Kev33

What's new ?

- Eagles have cockpits which can be undock and use at separate spacecraft (but they don't have main engine).

- Cockpits names are: ECockpit, ECockpit-L, ECockpit-M, ECockpit-S, ECockpit-C, ECockpit-N,

- All cockpits are not any difference but I made 6 cockpits to avoid problem with the same names off cockpits in one scenario.

- Modules (cargo, lab, medical, standard and nuclear) can be use as payload or docking elements,

they have hover engine, which is needed to dock modules to Eagle Transporters.

Eagle cockpit has one dock (number 0) on the back of the cockpit.
When the cockpit is used as payload press "J" to separate cockpit (if you have payload module - it will be separate first than cockpit).
If you use cockpit as docking element - you can undock it from cockpit.

Eagle transporters names are:
Eagle (Engine module + ECockpit - without payload module)
Eagle-L (Engine module + ECockpit-L + E-Lab module)
Eagle-M (Engine module + ECockpit-M + E-Medical module)
Eagle-S (Engine module + ECockpit-S + E-Standard module)
Eagle-C (Engine module + ECockpit-C + E-Cargo module)
Eagle-N (Engine module + ECockpit-N + E-Nuclear module)

Also there is engine module (without cockpit and payload) - EEngine

They have four docks: 0 - for payload modules, 1 - for cockpit and 2,3 - for other payloads

Modules names are:
E-Lab
E-Medical
E-Standard
E-Cargo
E-Nuclear

E-lab, E-medical, E-standard have three docks: 0 - on the right side
1 - on the left side
2 - on the top

E-cargo and E-nuclear have only one dock - 0 on the top (to dock to Eagle Transporter)

REQUIRED ADDONS:

- Vinka's spacecraft

- Alphan's MoonBase Alpha addon (for Moon scenarios)

- Ultra Probe by Erik Anderson aka Sputnik (for Ulra Probe rescue scenario)

CREDITS/COPYRIGHT

- Eagle meshes : Frying Tiger
- Payload modules meshes : Kev33
- Spacecraft.dll add-on : Vinka

Thanks to all for your excellent work.

At least to me, they work OK and I'm updating to configs to sc3, so that I have the VC and sounds.

BenSisko, please give this version a try and see if the problems you mentioned are there. They might be as Eagle cockpit and 1999 Eagle Spacecraft3.dll ver2 are both spacecraft.dll BUT the configs might be different enough for it to work.

Still can't localize the pods for an instrument approach. I'm using Camera MFD. Also, how do you attach the pod when landed? Pressing "J" causes a CTD. 1999 Eagle Spacecraft3.dll ver2 seemed easier to attach and detach the pods.
